I saw a piece on NESN while on the treadmill at the gym. (I can run if I have something to hold on to.[:)]) Have you seen the commercial with Tom Brady and the offensive linemen with him everywhere as he uses the Visa card? They are his actual starting line. It is actually Matt Light who explains they are metaphors for the five layers of protection Visa has to keep him safely in the pocket of protection or some such. The only one not real was the woman on the date with Tom and His ever present linemen. She was not his actress/girlfriend Bridget Moynihan. Stephen Neal, the Right Guard, said that Bridget will hog tie Tom and beat his butt.[:)]

Is hockey back this year? I don't have TV (I protested). Whenever I want to catch a game I have to go to a bar or somewhere similar. If it's back, I'm making time for my Red Wings.

I'm a bigger fan of college football than the pros, and Penn State in particular. The last couple of years the team hasn't done as well as in the past and some folks have been saying that the coach, Joe Paterno, is just too old to get it done anymore. My opinion is that for some reason they slipped on recruiting, especially with the class that came in in Y2k, and so they just needed a few decent players. Over the past few years they have been getting good recruits, a surprise given how poorly the team has performed on the field. Last year they had a great defense but the offense absolutely stunk; this year almost the whole defense returned and a few freshmen have lit up the offense. Or at least it looks like the offense is decent after playing the creampuffs on the early schedule -- we'll see for sure when they play Ohio State and Michigan early next month.

I thought they could be pretty good this season, probably good enough to end the regular season ranked about 15 or so; instead they're Big Ten champs and #3 in the BCS , and if either Texas or UCS lose this weekend they could play for the natinal championship. Now all the folks who said Paterno should retire are kissing his ass, and he's just happy a group of hardworking kids are seeing some success for their efforts. It's the warm and fuzzy story this season. Next season is an unknown because a lot seniors graduate (and at Penn State, football players actually DO graduate), but seeing younger guys step in and prove themselves (or maybe not) is what makes college football so exciting to me.
