DominaSmartass -> "How did you meet?" - Or what you tell people (2/21/2008 7:13:10 PM)

My other thread on vanilla relationships or lack thereof, brought this to mind. My partner and I met at a meeting of the group MAsT (Masters and slaves together) though admittedly we did not turn out to be a Master/slave couple. Anyway, people love to ask a happy couple how they met which I am also curious about in this thread. How did you meet? But there's a twist. If you met like we did, it doesn't work to tell vanilla people the truth (usually!) so where do you actually tell people you met if you can't say "In a dungeon" or whatnot?

I think it would be great to see how creative people get.

On a side note, but similarly, my partner has a t-shirt that he got from TES FEST a few years ago and he wears it to work sometimes. So when people ask him what TES is (truth: a very large NYC BDSM educational group) he tells them that it stands for "The Emergency Society" which is a group of EMTs and Firefighters who get together to socialize (completely fabricated.) The first time he explained this to someone in front of me I nearly bust a gut laughing. It's nuts, people actually believe him!

I met Sir in college when he kissed me out of nowhere. When I first told people that's how we met the freaked out and started telling me he assualted me or something, so now I just leave off the "kissed me out of nowhere" part. [:)]

greetings,
well met Master online, and tell people that, however never told them that i answered his personal ad, looking for a dominant. I also don't tell anyone in the normal vanilla scene how our first day went...all they know it was a nice romantic evening through NY city, they don't have to know it included a trip to every single leather and sex shop in the city...lol
As for TES, yep i have a few of those shirts, Never had to explain all i have to do is it stands for The euilenspeigal society and i get a strange look,  and just tell them it is based on a  german folklore by author Johanas Grenienger...and BTW that is where the history of the term came from....

NOW that is the truth!!!!...*giggles* plus you get some looks of intelligence being apart of such a "society"...
take care,
melanie

My first thought is that they probably think you're part of MENSA or some super smart thing with big German words like Eulenspiegel, which they will NEVER be able to google if you pronounce it correctly and they don't know the rules of the language.

My Love was my boss at work... That did not work out so well... My Love wasn't so good at ordering me around. I think this is how I knew My Love was mine to... (just fill in the rest with imagination)

Lashra -> RE: "How did you meet?" - Or what you tell people (2/21/2008 7:37:14 PM)

I tell them the truth, we met playing an online game and I thought his character name was wierd so I sent him a PM asking him what it meant. That was 5 years ago and we are still going  strong.

We met here on CM.
I tell people we met at an online dating site.

~Christina

of course I can never remember the NAME of the site...

proudsub -> RE: "How did you meet?" - Or what you tell people (2/21/2008 8:02:35 PM)

We met at co-rec badminton at Stanford Univ.

I met my Daddy on a BDSM personals site (not this one), and I tell people I met him online. If they ask which one, I say "one of those really popular ones" rather dismissively. Frankly I do not feel it is anyone's business which site we met on....or for that matter how we met.

TracyTaken -> RE: "How did you meet?" - Or what you tell people (2/21/2008 8:31:11 PM)

We met at my boyfriend's (who was also his best friend) house.

MsIncontrol -> RE: "How did you meet?" - Or what you tell people (2/21/2008 8:39:24 PM)

We met at a BDSM event that was in a hotel and we were introduced by a mutal friend and that is what we say..sans the BDSM event.  We met at the Radisson Hotel and we had a friend in common who introduced us.

I met Fox here on CM the day after he joined. We met in real life when he decided to come with me wandering in the park to take pictures. AS far as everyone knows, he and I met through an online photography club, and he and I were the only 2 who showed up at the meeting point that day. Strangely enough that isnt a complete fabrication, its just lifted from the reality of how I met my former Kitten. He and I were part of a movie group and we really were the only 2 who showed up for a "round table" discuusion of a movie we were going to see. We both didnt get the email earlier that day about it being cancelled.

I met Angel on here as well. Everyone assumes (and we never stopped them) that he and I met having something to do with the 2600 Hacker's Quarterly, since he is an avid reader and I was on staff with them years and years ago.

I tell people we met through a local Firefly meetup.  Which is fairly true- that's the first time we met and talked.  But we actually first connected on the Black Rose 2004 event forums and had tried to meet at the convention.

We met at a week long lifestyle camping event called In The Woods.  We tell vanilla people that we met while camping which is only the truth.  If they question why he traveled across 2 states to camp, we smile and say it was an adult camping trip and that usually stops any further questions.

I love the amount of sci-fi geeks (if you don't mind the term, no offense intended) on this site. Kinky geeks, it just goes to prove that you really need to watch out for the quiet ones!

I met my boyfriend on this site, actually. I have a number of different stories floating around with various family members. I met him at college, I met him through a friend at college, I met him at my cousin's wedding. I'm trying to focus my various stories all down to him and I having met on a vanilla dating site.

Can't stop the signal.[:)]

ownedgirlie -> RE: "How did you meet?" - Or what you tell people (2/21/2008 11:36:37 PM)

"I met him on a message board."

That sums it up pretty nicely.

A Shakespeare Lab in NYC...my friend dragged me along because she didn't want to be alone and He went because it was free and got Him out of the apartment. i was fascinated with revolving doors and felt the need to go around at least 5 times and He was sitting in front of the door watching. After the lab we kept talking...and there ya go lol.

Sir  and I here on CM, if anyone asks I say online if they pry further I usually say through myspace. It was funny because initally people were so interested in my relationship and so happy till they said "so how did you meet" as soon as I would say online, one of three things usually happened, they would laugh like it was a joke, they would shut down the conversation altogether or they would assume he must be some desperate stalker/sex criminal with no life. In the the end we just ended up saying we are blessed to have met and the where and why is of no matter to anyone

schoenekitty -> RE: "How did you meet?" - Or what you tell people (2/22/2008 12:13:08 AM)

I interviewed master for my senior research- he got an F for frustrating, asked me to dinner, and I've been hooked since...
