He's to old to go under deep sedation . he's 17.it becomes very very dangerous the older they are to go under, they could even die. but this growth keeps growing bigger n bigger and now blocks his entire canal from draining and wax backs up and gets stuck and his ear stinks. I was thinkng an hoping maybe a qualified vet could like slip a cauterrizing iron in or a freezing thingie like they do for human growths an take some of it off, with only a  local for pain? I know that might be kind of dangerous cause the dog could move, perhaps, it'd  work though?

it's been many years since i worked as a Vet Tech, but it definitely depends on the animal & the Vet & the rapport between them...i had a cat who allowed the Vet & his assistant to perform a closed reduction on a couple of fractured metatarsals without even a local...i didn't want him anesthetized due to his age...the cat didn't even flinch...but he was unusual...

sedation & general anesthesia are two different things...one place i worked, a patient was a Weimeraner who would develop hematomae in his ears...he was so rambunctious that we couldn't even do a dressing change without sedation...but once sedated, the dog wouldn't move & we could do whatever we needed to do...you need to check with your Vet to determine the best course of treatment...if you don't like what your Vet has to say, get a second opinion, just like you would do for a human....and good luck, i hope your baby is ok......

OP, i had a very old dog that had a growth at the base of his tail.  the vet gave him  local anesthesia and strapped him down so he'd hold still.  he was awake through the procedure and didn't feel a thing.

I think it can be safely done with sedation rather than full anesthesia, but you also have to factor in stress to the animal....  but a wart is small, it should be do-able.

I agree with lilsul in checking with your vet.  It seems to me they should be able to do a general but don't know how they'll get it to stop bleeding unless they use some Quikstop on it.   And a second opinion is always good.  Just don't tell the second what the first said or they're likely to agree just to stick together.

thist hing on his ear aint exactly small,  small. it started out so small we thought it was a tick, but now a year later it's continueing to grow every month or so it looks diffrent, and it's about the size of a popcorn kernal now. I am regretting my choice not to have it taken off last time he was under for teeth cleaning. the vet said it'd just come back again an removing it'd do no good and it'd just make his ear sore and he'd have to wear an E collar, and i listend to her, cause at the time it wasn't as big as it is now. it also bleeds if you bump it. I accidently scraped it while cleaning his ear once, so it has blood vessles.

I hate to  be a killjoy here ...  But this  dog is  very  old and incontanent as well ?  Also it could be a form of cancer yes animals  get this as well......  I  understand  how dear a pet can be but I  also understand that  at times you  have to  do  what  is better for the pet ..... I have had  most my animals ranging from 2 years  up to  25  ( yes I had a cat that  lasted that long and healthy) and the hardest thing I have had to  do is to  put one down ... but there is a time when they no longer have a  quality of life and being pets at times they are luckier than the human population  as they  dont have to  continue to  suffer. Just my  two cents sorry  for being so  candid

no, the issue of peeing has been dealt with it seems. I let him out 3 to four times a night stead of 2 n so far no accident, if you scare or startle him he still pee's just like when he was 1 lol. his quality of life is still quite nice, he runs n he plays n he chases his ball better than any puppy.  He eats well n other than the growth gets a clean bill of health every visit to the vet:)

Yes growwths can be mass cell tumors, there's other cancers too n they are treatable, generally speaking.

Now if he started not having a nice life quality I wouldn't keep him around for my owl selfish reasons

I took him to the vet today to have the growth asperated, they've sent the sample to the lab and will tell me what the results are as soon as they're back. The vet said due to how far  in it is, it'll have to be dealt with, with him fully out, if we go that rout. I could always ask someone else but it is in his ear cannal so I am betting the answer will be the same all around.

HoneyMaster (the dr.) said that if it's a true wart the freezy thingy would work (not His words, obv.) but it would prolly take more than one time.
Good luck.
And no, I wouldn't have a 17 yr. old under general sedation. ((((hugs)))))

Blushes, it keeps on growing, I don't know what else to do to get rid of it,  if it even can be gotten rid of, and it's super far in, so that compounds it even more. Maybe they could burn some of it away but that'd hurt him awful bad an leave a bleeding sore.  They're saying with it so deep in his ear, and it being such a dangerous area, it's no simple matter to remove it.

Ok the asperation found nothing of concern in it, just sebatious fluids, so we're back to square one it's an unidentifiable mass growing just because.
