Quivver -> RE: On the other hand about profiles... (9/22/2005 6:06:14 AM)

I've always *assumed* a blank Profile was an indication that who ever didnt
care to be bothered with mail. Yet some of them are the very one's that send
out mail, the one or two liners and expect some kind of responce. So, in
prior attempts to be polite and respond to mail I've asked "why no profile"?
The responces have ranged from "I'm new", to "I like to keep things private".
So, I've learned now to check the date they joined CM before I return a note.
Of course I'm only refering to those none profile readers who've ignored
the verbage in mine. Occasionally it's a nice note which strikes up a good
conversation. I am glad I've read this thread and learned a bit more
of why others choose no words, it will help keep my mind a bit more open.

Thanks
Q

I simply wish not to fill out my profile.

If people want to find out about me then read my forum posts or better yet ask me.

I agree, most likely a blank profile means they just want to talk on here, and they are already spoken for.

krikket -> RE: On the other hand about profiles... (9/22/2005 11:58:00 AM)

i pretty much ignore blank profiles, unless the note i receive is interesting, but that's rare. It seems that many times those with the blank profiles often write one or two word sentences. Even though i've asked (in my journal) for them to give me "something i can work with..lol" it seems to be ignored. That being the case, i feel free to ignore what i normally think of as good memories, and ignore their note.

I figure no profile means they are just lurking and don't want to be bothered with emails. :)

Most people who have answered here keep mentioning blank profiles. I do not see that the OP is purely about blank profiles - I am reading that it is about not answering the preference list as well.

I have a profile. I have filled in my profile. But I am not about to fill in my preferences. To me, thats just showing laziness. People who want to know me and when I am getting to know them, we talk about our likes and dislikes - people who want to just view a list about me, seem uninteresting to me. It takes time and effort to get to know people. People want things handed on a plate - made easy - save time.

Why rush? All we have is time...

There are many reasons why someone would want to leave their profile blank. It could be that they are attached monogamously, not looking for a partner right then, they could just be using the site for the message boards or chat rooms, they could just have an account set up to receive e-mail from friends, or they could just be here to score some. In my experience, if someone has a blank profile it means they aren't looking.

Yup, I ignore blank profiles. I figure if they haven't written anything then either they don't want any attention or that they just aren't someone who would interest me. I look at it this way, a profile may be the first impression you make on someone, so how much effort a person puts into it tells me something about them. If I see one blank, I just pass. If I see one poorly written or focusing on just fetishes or sex, I assume they're just out for sex and thrills (and since I'm not, I pass on those too). The ones that really interest me are the ones that tell me something about themselves as a person, more than just fetishes and lifestyle interests... who they are as a person, things they enjoy, goals, hobbies, personal interests, achievements, things they're proud of, etc. That stuff tells me so much more about them and gives me a starting point in writing to them.

BTW, here's a profile tip. Write about things in your profile you want people to write to you about. That is, if you share some things about yourself that you want people to notice, odds are that is what folks are going to respond to. You can kind of control who writes to you a little bit that way.... trolls not withstanding.

Well, I really wish there were a way you could turn off the e-mail option altogether so that I wouldn't have to read through the 50% of the profiles that say. "If you e-mail me I will block/ignore/shove a glass ketchup bottle up your ass..." It seems the remaining 50% start out with "I AM NOT LOOKING FOR FAKES/TRANNIES/PIZZA DELIVERY MEN."

Is there such a problem with people not being idiotic morons here that you have to make your profile seem anally rententive in hopes of not attracting attention?

Granted, I'm new here and all ,but really I find that seriously disappointing.
