Something I've been wondering about for a while - does anyone know if nipple play/torment effects breast feeding, either at the time or later on in life? How robust is the female nipple?

Absent an injury that became infected, I haven't heard of any problems. The nipple isn't a single duct that can be easily blocked. It's made up of many individual and independant ducts so if a few are scarred there should be plenty of others to take over.

Remember, it was designed by nature to be chewed on!

It is a Mr Warren says, but I should add:
Remove all piercings from the nipple, common sense, I know, but I have seen the X-rays of a capture bead making its way through the digestive track.
If your nipples are tormented during the period of having a breast feeding infant, talk to the Leech Society aka La Leche League at: http://www.lalecheleague.org/FAQ/FAQMain.html
They are quite puritanical in regards to breast feeding but have a vast amount of information
Hope this info is useful
