 When ever I seem to walk fast or run my legs start to get all hot and itchy. Sometimes it gets so bad that I have to stop and scratch them and sometimes I scratch them until they bleed it is quite painful. What could be causing this?

I experience this also sometimes when I'm on the elliptical machine at the gym and am working hard.  It's fairly common - google it and you'll find plenty of info, but there's not much to be done about it.  I usually just work through it, but sometimes have to stop and rub them for a bit, which may help.

I'm not at all certain...but I believe I have a reasonable solution;

(Stop walking fast).

When I first started a walking regimine this happened to my forearms and hands, though I did not scratch them. That was 2.5 years ago and I cannot remember the last time I experienced it, and I do not experience it now during my morning runs.

You could be allergic to the pants or shorts that your wearing. i have one pair of lycra/spandex pants that i use for my job and i found out it makes me itch and scratch like crazy. So i had to stop wearing them

There are more then a few things it could be, I have this same issue sometimes when I run. I'll just make a quick list and you can see what might apply or what you want to look into.

1) Could be chafing - You could try sports anti-chafing cream. Some cross-country and marathon runners use vasaline because it wont dry out or sweat off.

2) Allergy to either the clothing material or the soap you wash them in.

3) (this is me) the sweating opens your pours and allergens that are already present on your skin can cause the irritation (i.e. pollen, pet dander, or the above mentioned soap).

4) Depending on if you shave there and how recently your pours and skin could be already irritated, but not to the degree that you notice. (I get this one too, so instead of shaving every day, I take a couple days break until I think it's gotten to long or Ma'am tells me to shave again, usually about 2-3 days.) (Also shaving after the exersice or the night before helps too.)

oh hell ya that happens. I get it all over, from running, walking, mowing, darn near anything in the summer. Doctor said to take a benadryl before doing the above mentioned things.
It works but take too many and you'll end up napping...sigh...
Winter around here may not be good for much but at least I dont get heat itchies.

Sweat, lotion................  yes any kinds of allergens................  your pores open during sweating to let it out.......  and can also let things in........................................
