Now, you can certainly respectfully ignore people, when you don't like what they have to say ... and so can I. I tend towards not doing that though, at least not since Middle School. It's not really a matter of me liking what they have to say or not. It's really more a question of being able to carry on a conversation about the topic of the section. In the early days of the web, when AOL decided to open up their service to the internet, all of the lifestyle related usenet groups were overrun with born-again types telling us that we were going to hell, or otherwise sharing their well-informed critiques about how we live. Whether I liked what they had to say wasn't really at issue. What was at issue was that it got damn hard in the unmoderated groups to carry on an intelligent conversation about the lifestyle. Every thread turned to defending the lifestyle instead. I'd hate to see that happen here. As I said in my original post, I'm here to discuss our way of life with other Goreans. If every thread turns into a debate with outsiders about what we do, rather than informed discourse among those who do what we do and so have some experience about it to share, it's just going to get tedious, like the newsgroups did. Maybe the strategy that we used there to some effect (ignoring the agitators) will work here.
