Hi,
Can anyone tell me what the signifcance of branding is apart from marking a sub/slave as property? Especially if its done by a bdsm Domme or a vanilla Domme?

Agonizing.

Dehumanizing.

Permanent.

Decorative.

And not a terribly sexy concept, for those of us who grew up branding cattle.

Also, so far as I know, there is no such thing as a "vanilla domme", especially one who brands people.

For me, branding is a spiritual body modification. I have two brands, one on each forearm. So does my girl...she had hers first and years before she met me.

moki1984 -> RE: Branding (3/10/2008 12:04:14 PM)

think about it..

a permanent, highly painful mark on you that you will never, ever get rid of. you can get rid of a tattoo, a branding..what are you gonna do, cut it out?

careful with this one though. i have burn scars on me from an intense pain play one time that went back and forth with me and the other party involved, and sure they are hidden but i am not so fond of them now that i never play with that individual.

The government can put rules on BDSM.......raid clubs......say it's "evil"...........but they can't take away your brand!!!  *at least not yet..........*

I've read that brands can fade over time, and may not be as permanenet as a tattoo. But watch out for infection!

A brand is a burn scar. Like any scars, they can fade over time, depending on how bad the initial injury was and how well it was cared for while it healed. That said, I still have burn scars from when I was 16 that I got from heated metal briefly touching my skin. I'd consider a brand as permenant as a tattoo.

Madame4a -> RE: Branding (3/14/2008 7:00:14 AM)

Branding can be another activity in an SM context -- like piercing or cutting.. its a bit more permanent, obviously.. and it also has its ritual uses... I have some cuttings that are all about ritual for me, I don't care for pain.

chellekitty -> RE: Branding (3/14/2008 8:36:01 AM)

my cuttings (2) have been more permanent than my brandings (3)...i wanna lick a vanilla Domme...and personally branding is more about endurring the pain for the purpose of getting pain...cuttings and blood being spilt are what do it for me spiritually....

LadyPact -> RE: Branding (3/14/2008 1:21:41 PM)

My first post didn't seem to take.  I'll try again.

The significance is the showing of ownership.  That My boy knelt, in front of Me, to take My mark.  That he should wear it proudly, knowing his owner.  That there might be something on his body, showing his dedication, his loyalty.  That in that moment of metal and heat, he had given himself to Me.  The spiritual connection was amazing.  Nothing in all of My years has compared to it.

It is amazing what a few seconds in time, can do to change anyone.

You have it surrounded, Ma'am. Or that You are there, holding his hand, when he gets the piercing. Or the tattoo. And filming it. A brand is more immediate & painful and something that i had not considered until a few years ago. i don't have one & doubt that i ever will, but i understand the concept. i got the first frenum 2 years ago alone, but for Her. That did not last, but the steel bar did, and it got lonely. So i flew back East and as of the 15th it has two new brothers now and a CBR elsewhere. Just because i wanted to. A completely different experience.

Getting stabbed the first time because She wanted it as a mark, that indeed is it.

All the best.

This is true about fading, especially if the brand is more of a sear than a deep burn.  Daddy branded me with His mark the day He collared me.  I was scared to death but, truth be told, it was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be.  I have asked Daddy to brand me again at some point in the future because the first week or two after it was done made me feel so connected and completely "owned" as I felt it heal.  I feel that way anyhow, but feeling and remembering has never been so well "burnt" into my memory.  *warm smiles*

boiforced -> RE: Branding (3/18/2008 6:37:05 PM)

I want to thank all those people who replied to my post. Thanks very much you've all helped a great deal.

Najakcharmer -> RE: Branding (3/18/2008 6:45:51 PM)

It can be a mark of ownership, a simple decoration/body modification like a tattoo, or a spiritual/initiatory experience.

I plan to get either a branding or a permanent cutting at Frolicon, to commemorate some professional achievements that also have spiritual significance to me.  D/s won't really be a factor in the experience.  But it certainly can be, depending on the context and the people involved.  Basically it means what the people involved think it means.

Kirren -> RE: Branding (3/18/2008 8:56:20 PM)

Ive always wanted a brand...Ive asked D to come up with one for Me...He wont do it...but Im into scarification and body modification so it would be just another thing for Me...and that may be why.
