I have this queen size blanket and it's all ratty and tore up to the point it'd be futile to try to sew the many numerous and big rips in it, and I thought maybe I could cut it up into a few blankets for the spca cages for kittens. The bed instructions for feral cat beds says 11 by 17. I'm not sure exactly how big that is.

A standard queen-size blanket is 90 by 90, so I'd guess if the cat blankets are 11 by 17, you could make 40, depending on how many rips and such you have to avoid.

Bed bath and beyond says that a queen is 60 x 80 inches

I'm thinking 16 blankets.  Fold the 90 x 90 in half both ways, to get 45 x 45, that's 4 blankets.  Fold those 4 blankets in half both ways, to get 22 1/2 x 22 1/2, and now you have 16 blankets.

Edited to say:  all of my queen size blankets measure differently. LOL.

For 60 x 80:  Fold in half both ways to get 30 x 40, that's 4 blankets. Fold those 4 blankets in half both ways, to get 15 x 20, and now you still have 16 blankets.

A queen size blanket is X by Y inches.

The answer to this question depends on the dimensions of the sub.

YHMA:  I think 60 x 80 is the size of the mattress.  I found several sizes for queen size blankets, 80 x 88, 87 x 95, 90 x 90, etc.

I think if you fold in half both ways, cut on your folds, then fold what you have left in half both ways, cut on your folds, you'll be good no matter what size you start with.

I have found that a queen sized blanket, and plenty of duct tape, is sufficient to convert any queen sized blanket into the appropriate sub blanket.

Think outside the box.

I was just thinking lay a ruler down and mark 11 and them mark 17 and cut lol. A very simple and low key method.

*nods* That's what I was thinking.

1)Measure the damn torn up blanket.
2)Write down said measurment on a piece of paper.. or on the wall.. whatever
3)Measure (starting at one corner of the damn torn up blanket) 11 (inches, centimeters, millimeters) by 17 (inches, centimeters, millimeters) .. since the OP didn't say which.
4 a)Mark off these rectangles (since it's not 11 by 11 or 17 by 17 technically they are rectangles) with a marker or pencil or crayon or paint or maybe sewing pins- on the damn torn up blanket.
4 b)Each time you are done marking off one 11 by 17 "rectangle" on the damn torn up blanket, write down a number on a piece of paper or the floor or the ceiling. ...(Example: first rectangle=1 second rectangle=2 third rectangle= 3)
5 a)Repeat step 4 a until you have measured the entire damn torn up blanket.
5 b) Upon completion of the measuring and marking, read the number you have written down. There is your answer.

That would be the normal way to do it.  That way you could avoid the rips wherever they were. Seems like the least brainpower needed too.

Are we talking metric blankets or imperial blankets here?

Oddly enough this was a Funny Thread.

She isn't making Slave Blankets by the way. she is making CAGE Blankets for the ASPCA these blankets will be for ACTUAL Animals. At least the way I understand what she said anyway.

Before you go and do that you need to make sure the Blanket is NON Toxic in any way. Before you go to all this work CALL and find out what the requirements for cage blankets are. I found when I wanted to make Doggy Pillows out of Old Jeans the process to make sure they were safe made them more expensive to make then if I had bought them from Wal-Mart.

They have instructions on the website, and they recomend using fleece, but I'm not running out and buying a bunch of fleece just for this cause, fleece is mighty damn expensive, and I am facing total brokeness this month.

hehe sorry for all who were disapointed. I forgot to add spca cages, but also if you read the entire thing it does say kitties in the body of the message and 11 by 17 hehe.

I picked up on the kitties part right away, being a cat lover. SPCA meant four legged kitties.

What type of material is the blanket made out of? You might be able to donate it to a doggie rescue who could use it for dogs to sleep on. Large enough dogs soon make their own rips in it, so a few rips of your own will not matter.
