The problem with "spiritual" is, that religious people also say they are "spiritual"because they believe in the holy spirit.  I guess it is a little of those them/we discussion, which are good ofcourse.

Hmm Its the beauty of language again, differant people using words for differant things. I dont think there is a word better than spiritual to desciribe me, i take a lot of differant ideas from differant relgions and they make me feel better I dont revolve my life around them, im fairly open minded to other peoples beliefs and stuff, i just think spiritual fits that rather nicely.

I guess spiritual is mostly used for all religions outside "church" like systems. But also for people believing in ghosts and believing in alternative healing.
I wonder what a dictionary ssays about it      brb ;)

and back;
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spirituality

wiki discusses spiritual vs religion.  (so we can stop talking here  :P  )

To suggest that any form of pagan (of which there are many) worships any form of deity is misguided. Many of them feel that it is arrogant to suggest that any deity would be in the slightest bit interested in a meer mortal. Many of them also worship both male and female aspects of the divine. So there is no deity defined dominant role in a 'neo' pagan family. There again, ask a dozen different pagans what they believe, and you'll get 13 different answers

Very true. I don't doubt that beings of "god-like" power exist but I'm pretty sure their existance is so much more advanced than ours that they quite likely are not even aware of our presence. I also believe in a good number of lesser spiritual entities that do interfere with the human world, but I don't worship them.  I worship the energy that runs through everything in the Universe. I sometimes call that energy Gaia or Mother Nature, but I don't see it as a sentient god.

As for female dominant roles, I've met just as many pagan males that were dominant as females...It seems to be split pretty evenly.

isn't that a contradiction?

how do you see that energy? IS that energy ...God for you..or similar. What is the difference between a God and Energy?

for me energy is; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entropy (total sum of energy is always the same in a system)
It never disappears, therefor I think our life energy (soul??) will continue living too. I am just not sure yet..if it moves back in a body again.

If you followed Jesus you would know that he took a lot of his words from other religions. But were they really his words or the words of his followers.

"i give the ideas, they are written by those holding the pen, those holding the pen were always men"

Though that may be somewhat misquoted (cant remember the exact words) Its from the muse in dogma when she is refering to the bible, the ideas were written by followers and translated by others and others, of course thats going to lead to a chinease whispers affect (i didnt quote that for the gender issue just to say that whomever wrote it is going to impact upon it)

I don't agree.

I think they probably exist so purely in the astral that they are very unaware of the physical plane or if they are aware of it, they don't care about it. I think that lesser spiritual entities do pay attention to us, but not the highest order of astrals.

Having gone to Catholic schools ,from primary through university, I can testify that it can help make one a kinkster. Goddamn, a nun in her habit with a ruler in her hand still give me hardwood!

Having grown up, though, and after my own spiritual work and journey, I agree that it's the spiritual part of being human that needs to be explored and nurtured, not the "religious". I never heard of a truly spiritual person killing another for a difference in "belief".

Well, several things come to mind.

* There are Christians (myself among them) who think of God as Father-Mother.
* There were women among Jesus' followers - powerful women, some of whom bankrolled his ministry. It is thought that Mary Magdalene (who was most decidedly not the prostitute - she was declared so by a Pope who did not want her seen as being in a position of power) was one of those women.
* Paul reflected the cultural mores of his time. His statement about women keeping silence in the church (one particular church) is thought by some to be about those women being gossips or creating tension.
* Eve acknowledged that she was tempted by the serpent. Adam blamed both Eve and God ("the woman you gave me"). That doesn't make him equal to either Eve or God in my book.

Yes, I am a submissive woman (sort of). But I don't see anything un-Christian or against the Word of God in a woman being dominant.

Sorry, I'm not familiar with this "Lockheart".

I simply use Gaia as a term to refer to energy that runs through everything in the universe...the "web" that connects everything, so to speak.

Oh goodie - another thread where christians have to defend themselves.
Serious question though - why is it that when a religon thread rears it's head, and a variety of religons respond - that the christians or muslims end up on the list of the hate-mongers?

Because it's positively PC to do it? .obviously.

Its not "cool" to be a Christian (i say that with irony)

Problem with any philispohical/belief thread is that people tend to have their own strong ideas and they are all differant. As Chrisitanity is probably one of the best known religions (at least in the UK) in terms of popular culture and referances we all 'have an opinion' and we regurgitate the 'facts' that we have read and seen, as with any debate, thats kinda what a debate is. No one has to defend themselves, but when these beliefs shape how people live their life then we feel compelled to.

We don't.

We can't know that any religion is true. We can only base our personal feelings on what "feels" true to us. That's why we can't accurately say that one religion is wrong and another is right...they're all based on the intangible quality of faith.

I can tell you why I believe they exist and that's because of experiences I've had in meditation and discussions I've had with my spirit guide.

The spirit guide doesn't belong to them? Interesting view.

I find it interesting to read (not judging though) about not beeing able to proof, having faith, spirit guides..and believing.
For me as a science person..that is sometimes hard to understand. Although electricity can't be seen always to..and it is stil excist.
For me the most important is the fact that it gives people strength. That is al what counts.
