I am looking to replace my chiropratic exam table with a gyno-stirrups and all.  Does anyone know what a reasonable price is, how reliable ebay would be for this item and what I should look for?  It will be used on boys and girls

There is a site called DotMed that sells stuff like this.  For instance, here is an auction (unfortunately, now over) for a gyno table last year in your state, and it looks like it went for only $250.  They show 160 exam table listings (all over the US) here.

Oh and you might also want to check out GovDeals.  Here is what looks like a power table with a minimum bid right now of $28, with 2 days remaining. You'll have to drive to NC to get it, but for that price, it's a steal. It doesn't show the stirrups in any of the pictures, but with the way the table is made, they are most likely hiding under the pullout foot extension.

We purchased an awesome 1940's exam table on ebay last year. We paid $125.00 for it and drove about 100 miles to pick it up.  Like anything else on ebay watch your seller's feedback. Good luck . . . ours has provided many hours of enjoyment with many more ideas to try out.

If you have a nearby University, call and see if they have a surplus department that sells off unwanted gear (esp if they have a medical school). The Uni near me does, and things like that can occasionally be found very cheaply.

thanks for the feedback-driving is worth it for those prices

Luckily, we have a large university where we are (with a huge med school) and I've seen examination beds go to the public for as little as 25 bucks.  Generally they need a little TLC, often having ripped vynil or missing drawers or needing a good coat of paint, but you can get lucky.  Also talk to hospitals and large clinics as you might get lucky.

The truth is, except for traditional stirrups, it's not terribly difficult to make an examination bed out of plywood, but if you can get it surplus you will probably do better.

A friend of mine pick up a pair for free from Craigs List.  They had been replaced by the clinic and were in storage.  The one he gave me needed some work, no complaints here.  I added wheels from home depot to the bottom of mine to move it easily, major improvement it was a real beast to stash in the spare bedroom. I would realy like to make a plywood top and cover so it would look like a buffet table and stay in the living room(hidden in plain sight).

I remember someone buying 5 or 6 1950's vintage birthing tables at a goverment surplus auction for less than a hundred dollars a few years back.  The birthing table 'stirups' would be better for the longer exams that tend to happen in my  'office'[;)]
