Fuck....running a fever.  It's low, only about 100.  My older one stayed home from school today since she had a fever yesterday and today (102).  the younger one isn't showing anything yet.  I need to stay away from the man until this passes since he's in the middle of chemo.  Outside of the fever I feel fine and only knew I had one because I tested the ear thermometer today before I went to check the older one.  Anyone know if anything is going around that only gives a fever and no other symptoms?

Sure you're not just ovulating?

Ear thermometers are notorious for giving bad readings.  You need to double check it against a regular thermometer. You can usually tell when you have a fever by how you feel, the thermometer just gives you a number.

And I'm sure someone will come along and offer to use a "special" thermometer on you.

If you have a fever you feel cold - one of the key ways the body raises its temperature is to induce shivering - that's why people with high fevers tend to pile on the blankets even though they feel hot to the touch.

Do you mean you feel warmer than usual to the touch, but are actually feeling as though you are cold?

I don't know of anything going around like that, but I hope you're staying hydrated and eating properly to stave off any impending yuckness. Hope you get over this soon! (No I am not going to offer the alt thermometer!)I usually feel hot when I run a low grade fever btw.

dehydration causes a fever, so drink plenty of fluids. (good advice under most circumstances.)

ok, since it was mentioned, I will offer to use the 'special' thermometor on you...
a lot of times when I have a fever, especially low-grade, I feel 'clammy' and not hot or cold, just very uncomfortable.

There are a variety of harmless infections called "3-day-fever" (The german name that is. No idea about the english one.). They are usually completely harmless, and the only symptom is fever. Stay hydrated and get a bit of rest.

However, I am in no way an expert. Should the fever linger, other symptoms pop up, or you get worried, go, see a doctor.

Probably just a virus.  My kids have had things like that - fever, no other symptoms, gone in 24-48 hours.  Get some rest, and take it easy; hopefully it turns into nothing else!

With a fever that low, I wouldn't take any meds to fight it. Your body turns up its temp to fight an infection. Let it fight. Personally, I wouldn't take anything before 102-ish.
However....sex with a person with a fever is hot, LOL. The slight temp difference is quite noticable.

Like others, drink extra amounts of clear liquids.

Well wishes.

It's a virus you're fighting off. Drink lots of liquid especially citrus juice or tea with lemon, get lots of rest and you may not get the rest of it.

Sounds like the kids are bringing the flu home to you.  Don't forget to hydrate yourself.

I read something yesterday urging people to go to the doctor when the fever hits.  They have some excellent meds to shorten the flu, but you have to take them early on.

Nothing to really help it beyond that.

Better to get the flu shot to begin with.

Nah...fevers gone for me.  It lasted for about four days for my older one.  I took her to the doctor today to make sure it wasn't strep.  They did a culture, but said her throat looked fine and didn't expect the results to show strep.  He said there's a bunch of viruses running through the area where the only symptom is a low grade fever.

I never get flu shots.  The one time I did I got the flu the worst that I've ever gotten in my life.

Yes, we've had this virus in the household for 2 weeks, it's affected my 3 children, hubby and myself. the main symptom is a high fever. we've also had some stuffy heads and my lungs are involved because i have asthma. one of our 5 year old twins is about through with it, the other twin is in the middle of the high fever cycle. Remember, you can overlap  motrin with acetometiphine and we have had to do that with the twins to keep them around 102 degrees. their bigger sister dad and I arent quite as hot as the twins. Motrin seems sufficient to control the fever. I hear a bunch of children at my daughters school are out, all with high fevers. it's a nasty virus.

Having sex if you have a fever probably isn't the best idea . If you have something like the flu then you could just end up giving it to them and then you'll both be sick and taking care of kids when your sick sucks. Been there done that.
