"AP water probe prompts Senate hearings"

By MARTHA MENDOZA, AP National Writer Tue Mar 11, 6:22 AM ET

"Two veteran U.S. senators said they plan to hold hearings in response to an Associated Press investigation into the presence of trace amounts of pharmaceuticals in the drinking water supplies of at least 41 million Americans. "

(break)

" The five-month-long inquiry by the AP National Investigative Team found that while water is screened for drugs by some suppliers, they usually don't tell their customers that they have found medication in it, including antibiotics, anti-convulsants, mood stabilizers and sex hormones.

The series shows how drugs — mostly the residue of medications taken by people, excreted and flushed down the toilet — have gotten into the water supplies of at least 24 major metropolitan areas, from Southern California to northern New Jersey. The stories also detail the growing concerns among scientists that this pollution has adversely affected wildlife, and may threaten human health. "

I would not be surprised if some goober doesnt come on here and say it is a *good* thing.. as some may be getting the drug that way that they might not otherwise be able to afford. *chuckles* So I will just wait for them to come along.. it is inevitable.

"Scotch whiskey was found in the water as well."

Senator Kennedy, "no comment."

It stands to reason, what we flush will get us back eventually. Makes you wonder if the human race has signed it's own warrant as far as ill health is concerned. With all the not so nice things in water, I do wonder what our future generations will be like.

But then, how good is the infrastructure to carry that water, I heard the US has problems in that area, most of which is out of date and decaying.

Can we all save the tax money and pledge not to drink the required 1 million cups of water to avoid getting one dose of any of these things?

The problem isn't that we found these things in the water - the problem is we've developed technology to detect these amounts in water. Now the manufactures of the testing equipment need to find a reason to use it and cause a resulting panic. Its a business move. Hope while panicking you add a few 'water purification' and 'water testing' companies to your portfolio. Read more references they report that fact:
quote:

On the other hand powerful groups that are interested in the water as business are warning that this is not really a problem but a problem with the testing methodology. They say that what is happening is that developments in science and technology are making techniques capable of detecting lower concentrations of these chemicals in water. Not that any of those on the Congressional committee will do as much before spending tax dollars for more research.

Is this the next 'crises' since the global warming seems to have cooled?

I pledge to not drink 1 Million cups of water.

For some reason this isnt new to me, Didnt some one somewhere bring up the fact that valium was showing up in water supplies years ago>>?>, it may have been an english thing Im not sure, I cant find anything on the interweb about it. But it stands to reason its there, it makes sense its going to affect fishies n wildlife, but there are so many other issues with pollutants, are they gonna spend another trillion dollars looking into it? only to come up with nothing but more "scary news"?
