It is hard to say, there are so many possibilities that it is hard to guess which is correct. We know the mind can override the physical and if indeed there was mental illness, a compulsion that was driven by that mental illness could supercede any pain or common sense thought to "move one's arse". There also could have been pre-existing physical issues that would make either staying there less painful than it would be for more. Or that moving was painful period. Add to some mental issues and voila'. It will definately be an interesting story to follow if possible.
