So I have been meaning to pick up a suspension ring and I was wondering if anyone know of a place with a good price on them.

i do not know about a good deal as i would be the last person to be suspended.. so i have no idea about prices...

and you probably already know about twistedmonk... but i thought id post it anyway just incase...

Depends on if having the perty shiny finish of stainless steel is important to you.

You could also go to Dom Depot and ask for a large diameter welded ring strong enough to hang an adult swing from, a tire swing, a skychair, or something along those lines. I'd also check rigging sites. Not that I know any offhand. I haven't used a ring just yet, I tend to use multiple attachment points and climbing carribbeaners.

Depends on the weight you want to suspend, really. Go to a rock climbing or sports store that sells that kind of gear. If you have an existing suspension point that is great, if not then you need to make one or buy one. Deer stands make great portable suspension rigs if you have the ceiling for it. Otherwise, google Sartan BDSM, he has a some good ideas on how to make a proper suspension point.

I would go with BB BLAST statement, any local hardware store will carry these in strengths more then you should need. Shiny and plain. Tack stores, and Farm implement store have them also. Harbour Fright or other tool supply stores or discount tool outlets have them. I know I have a china tool supply outlet store that has them for about 2-3 dollars each last I was in there a year ago.
Even the guy out at the swapmeet that sells nuts and bolts has a bin with them in.
All of these sources I have used in holding cars down on trailers with these rings, so unless you lifting the guinness record guy from Mexico!

I like the Tack store and Farm implement store as they have many other wonderful devices to think about.

One other thought\

I do not want to knock the BDSM stores I have bought many a item there, but I do so like to shop other stores and sources.
But even more fun if you can go to farm, antique, equipment, horse or ranch auctions it is so much fun finding used items that are aged for a not so new look. Or are very high quality that would not be affordable new so a great cost savings can be had.
For instance a local meet packing business closed and the auction had exactly what you needed in high quality stainless steel. Not only that they also had rings with hooks that are very exotic looking (very mental) that were sold. Most were bought by a local junk dealer where he threw them in big bucket to sell. I bid a few of them. They took all of a bit of 0000 steel wool and a pressure cooking to sterilize (just in case) and wow a cheap and very cool looking hardware for suspension.

I was originally going to order from twisted monk anyway, his price seems good compared to others. Im not looking for a welded o-ring from home depot, A, its not weight tested or rated for lifting humans, B. its just not big enough. Climbing stores dont carry things like these, its of no use to a climber, its heavy and over sized. The closest thing they have is an over sized zinc plated steel carabiner made for arborists, construction workers and emergency personal.

It does say tested to 1200 pounds on the site. You'd have to be unable to freaking WALK if you were that much of a whale-I think it will do..

The youtube link posted is one ive seen before, monk takes an UN-welded ring from his supplier and hoists his 600 pound motorcycle up in the air, it barely opens a half inch.

I'm not trying to be pushy here. I just hate it when people suggest using recycled garage sale crap on rigging. I've done this sort of thing-and never dropped anyone yet-or had a bondage related injury-and that was in around 8 years of doing this stuff.

My advice to people doing this-or thinking of doing this.

If you cannot do it right-don't do it at all-poorly contrived and executed bondage is THE number 1 cause of bdsm related injuries.

From my point of view, I hate when photographers/doms etc won't spend the money on something they know will work, as opposed to something they think might work, so I totally agree with going with Monk.

Without a load bearing rating from the manufacturer, I don't find I have much confidence in suspension gear. That being said, I mainly use CMI, Petzl and Black Diamond climbing gear. A rigging plate is something that works in the place of these big klunky rings, and it costs around the same price. I have several "bear paw" rigging plates -- one that has 3 holes, another that has 5 holes and two that have 8. The prices on the plates seem to vary from $20 - 60. I also have a "Super 8" descender that works in a similar fashion -- that cost me about $15. I've also picked up swivels and handy little things to have in a rigger's bag from climbing specialty stores. http://www.karstsports.com has some of the more decent prices online.

I didn't say or imply that one should use second rate materials. In fact I believe I recommended that one seek out sources for climbers and rigging... As a former EMT and Firefighter, I've literally had my ass and that of my fellow brothers and sisters on the line on more than one occasion.

I won't buy a suspension ring from just any old BDSM website. I want one from a company that can show me their proof of testing and that meets OSHA and NFPA requirements.

Also, I didn't imply that you should buy just any welded o-ring from Dom Depot or any other place without doing your own research. I have picked up rings for use in pulley systems, rigging, and other situations as well from Dom Depot. However, the stuff I use is all OSHA and NFPA rated and most of it is left over from my surplus rescue gear. Although working off of one ring is pretty, again I've always preferred multiple rigging points. Just fits my style better...

I would worry more about how you fasten the ring to the ceiling or the beam or even the beam it self, than if the suspension ring is from home depo or what ever. Simple 6-8 mm ring, welded or not is usually the least problem. Although I usually use surplus rescue gear and climbing gear for suspension I would not hesitate to use 6-8mm ring from the nearest hardware store.

I have seen ceiling bolts drawn out because of too much load and I have seen bolts break because of wrong angle or too much swinging. Actually in some cases using two points in the ceiling can be more dangerous than one of them if the angle between them is too big. If I remember right the magic number is greater than 60°

Also unlocked carabiners in the wrong place can be disastrous.

Suspension points need to be overbuilt. Figure the load rating that would be the greatest-then multiply by a factor of four. Srews are a very BAD idea-they are only as strong as the wood they are in. Bolts through a heavy cross member are much better-with large washers to spread out the load. Threads need to be locked and the bolts thick (half inch or better)-grade five or eight at the least.

And if you get a piece of suspension bondage gear like a sling from someone-pay attention to how they say to hang it.

I made a sartan style sling of leather once,and solf it-told the guy that he was going to pull out the top corner fasteners if he hung it from a square instead of a t configuration.

Suree enough, the lazy dumbass ignored me-did not install the propper points for the sling....-and was whining about stripping out those same rivets I warned him about four months later-by doing what I warned him not to. I was not sympathetic.

Details matter-ignore them at your peril.

Well I dont want to start a flame war so Im not going to argue with anyone. Thank you to the few people that provided me helpfull links, its always nice to find new hardware sources on the net.

A friend of mine is upgrading his steel ring to an aircraft aluminum one for weight reasons and wants to sell me his old ring.
