not having had boys, but i've seen when the sons in a broken relationship definitely think they have to pick up the slack. does he have "man" responsibilities around the house? like, it's always his job to mow the lawn or something simple like that so he can feel like the man of the house, but not have to stress about things that aren't his concern?

Oh he loves me so much.... and I love him right back. I wish everyone had the capacity to be that loving and caring twords each other. He is a real jem.

He is gonna make some woman a great husband some day.. and a wonderful father. ~ He started when he was 8 wanting to learn how to cook and clean just in case his future wife didnt know how, or wanted some time off. ( he is scary smart and practical that way)

Most kids have no idea how to relate to him.. but adults simply adore him.

One Lucky Ma-ma

Yes he does.. he chose his chores. ~ I have been raised to believe that having chores isnt a bad thing as an um. It brings responsiblity... so he has his set. I do about 98% of the cooking ( yes he cooks.. and does a damn fine job at it.. he loves to cook) so he chose the kitchen as his chore. Said it wouldnt be fair for me to do all the cooking and have to clean too. ~ we do have a dish washer so it isnt too terrible.

He also takes out the garbage, and deals with the litter box. I have the rest of the house and cooking.

He is such a big boy

*chuckles* yeah he is a heart breaker... girls had fist fights to see who got to sit next to him at lunch. LOL

he has 6 1/2  more years before he hits 18... but he already acts like one.. *sighs* I have to remind him.. he can not date.. and I throw away girls numbers he gets given constantly. He has his cell phone taken away because girls were calling him all hours of the day and night.  I am not looking forward to 16. Wonder if I can get him temporarily "fixed". I dont want to be a grandma so soon.

He is a real sweet heart.. and wicked smart. ( reads at 12th grade level, and "passed" the standards for 10th grade in FCAT in 4th grade.) ~ 10th is the last year they test in the FCAT.

the LoudOne has chores, and he is 23 months old (picking up his toys, setting the table when we use paper plates, helping mom carry in the groceries if the bags are very light). I see this as a good thing and NEVER have to ask him twice. He loves to be a part of things..

I think it is good for them. I see so many people freak out over the mere *idea* of having thier kid ( at any age) do chores. Where the hell did we go wrong? We are raising a whole society of lazy, self indulgent, self important jackasses who have no idea about responsiblity. Now that I hate.

I also hate it when they look at me in horror when I ask my son to do anything. (like empty the dish washer)

We were out shopping and I reminded him I needed him to empty the dish washer when we got home.. and a woman berated me for it.
I of course crawled up her ass sideways. My um just said the lady was a wack a doodle. *chuckles*

I agree with Gwyn and holly... there is NOTHING wrong with ums performing age appropriate chores.  It prepares them for when they leave the nest and have to fend for themselves.

I hate when they do leave our nests tho.

KMsAngel -> RE: I hate it when........ (7/27/2008 7:02:17 AM)

my kids grumbled about their chores of course, specially since i didn't pay them an allowance to do it.

however, when they grew up and went into the world and saw friends who had NO idea how to cook, or wash clothes or load a dishwasher, who didn't know that spaghetti noodles didn't come cooked, who had no idea how to pay bills, or budget or shop sensibly.... they were horrified and very grateful i was such a mean mom.

exactly!  I think people forget that schools do not teach kids life lessons, or general responsiblity.... It is the parents job to do that. I have seen so many people get pissed when thier grown children are in finacial shit... and wonder why the schools didnt teach thier kids better. *sighs*

I have literaily said ~ well didnt *you* sit them down with a savings/checking account of thier own, and teach them how to balance a check book? Didnt *you* teach them to live within thier means? Didnt *you* teach them how to be fiscaly responsible, and how to pay bills?

I did this at a church coffee hour when a set of parents were bemoaning thier daughters issues.. ( and they suck at thier own finaces too ~ over 100,000 in credit card debit they moan about constantly )

Some people just amaze me.
