I'm also going to be calling my new MIL if I can't find anything. Lumus says she or his sister should know somewhere I can get boots. I just don't want to spend a fortune if I'm not going to wear them a lot. How often do you wear boots here?

Rain, you are at present Without Automobile. You will have to WALK to the grocery store, to the Shoppers, to whereever, in the SLUSHY SNOW. You don't need industrial Nunavut level boots, but you will want to not have wet squelchy feet. That was only fun when you were eight.

It wasn't fun THEN, dammit! But have you SEEN what they're calling boots this year? With 3-4" spiked heels? How the holy heckarooni am I supposed to walk in those things? The alternatives look like I slaughtered a polar bear or baby seal and wrapped the skins around my feet.

There has to be SOME kind of middle of the ground, practical yet stylish alternative....

Remember how I was HATING Canada Post earlier? Dig THIS.

13 November, 9 am---I mail my package from lovely Rochester, Michigan.
14 November 11 pm--it arrives in CHICAGO, enroute to Canada
18 November 2 pm---it arrives in MISSISAUGA (the big town attached to Toronto)

Now, I knew full well that US to CDN priority mail got routed through Toronto, but via CHICAGO? It took FOUR days to get there by AIR?

Oh, it's headed to Vancouver, the little box. That I could have driven there more quickly. Stay tuned. I will continue to obsessively check its route, and seriously consider Fedex next time. Hmph~ I am so annoyed, I nearly missed fixing a misplaced apostrophe! Now THAT is some serious annoyance.
