Small things like this made a world of difference, and showed in an unspoken way how important we were and are to them. By the way... DRH, I AM sorry that you and your Daddy have to go through this. It's not an easy road, and I will keep you in my prayers that the path your friend is on has a cure and is painless.

I hate that all the job listings I'm finding in the UK say "must have work permit or be a citizen" GAH!! How can I get the permit if they don't hire me??

I could be ready to go in less than a week. Mainly just need to pack up the personal stuff I'd take (artwork, photos, books, music collection), and clothing. Get the cats their traveling papers. He's keeping his eyes open. Running into the same issue I am - the permit thing.

and u cant get a permit unless u have a job..correct??... I guess its harder to find a job from here, and easier if u were there looking what kind of job are u looking for?

[&o] I hate it when I check on the child support case with my ex and discover he's over $10,000 in arrears on his support and the last payment he made was early last June. No wonder I don't bother checking... P.S. - for the flip side of this, see the "I Love It When" thread..... snickers

Right. the employer has to apply for it. and with the mandate that hiring must be done from within the EU before looking outside of the EU, it's even harder. I work in the hotel industry. UNfortunately there doesnt seem to be a provision for a visa to come look for work, if you're not an EU national.

hotel industry..I used to work for Fairfield Inns, and also as a corp. travel consultant......13 years worth......have you tried going through some of the hotel chain websites??....MC, HH, HI, HY and such?

Yeah, I've been checking IHG, Hyatt, Hilton, HI, etc. sigh Hilton has a year wait period before you can do an international transfer. None of the hotels here in town are hiring desk staff right now.. everyone is hanging on to their jobs (friggin economy).

Which may explain why there have been so few listings there. People don't generally want to leave a job where they KNOW they'll be getting a paycheck in economic times like these.

I know I kick ass at hotel reception. I would do well in other customer service stuff, except retail. been there, done that.. ripped a few heads off..LOL Problem is that those same jobs can be filled easily from within the EU. Figured hotel is my best bet, since I have almost 5 yrs at the same property, lots of positive guest feedback (for the hotel and for me, personally).
