I hate it when it's my first ever Thanksgiving away from my children, my first Thanksgiving out of the country in over 25 years (has it been that long?) and perhaps worst of all, that I'm starting to feel down about it......

God, I hate pity parties..... especially my own.

Oh I wish I could go 'comfy' but I can't. I have to go chic, which is a wee bit alien to me as is going 'upscale'. I left that lifestyle behind decades ago and I just... don't fit in with them very well.
In fact the sister I'm staying with called me yesterday all excited. Turns out she has made an appointment for me to get my hair done, 'Isn't it exciting Jennifer? We are all looking forward to you getting fixed and looking good'.

I excel with table manners sure, but I don't excel at dressing to the nines when I'm really just a four lol. No jeans, no sneakers which cuts my wardrobe to um... *blinks* corsets and pjamas haha.

One of the hardest parts of not knowing anyone here is that I haven't anyone to ask 'does this outfit look okay'?
I have to dress as slim as possible, I have to smuggle granola bars because my mother frowns on my taking in food. Can't smoke cigarettes there and her house is literally an Architectural Digest home which means no flopping into a chair.

Ironically I've wanted back into the family for a long time, I'm just realizing what that entails and wondering if I've made a huge mistake.

I've not been around them in 4 years, when one of my little (15) nieces found a corset pic on my laptop. Boom... internet slut and not fit to be around the family. So this is a test, a test to see if I'm perfect enough and my god I am so very not perfect. It hurts that they see me as someone that needs swept into a salon and fixed before a family dinner.

Okies, gotta go shower and try and pack.

Maybe I can get irrevocably lost on the way hahaha.

oh lord, camille, I would be looking for the biggest biker type guy friend with the loudest Harley around. Go ahead and dress to the nines, but when you get to dinner, "explain" that you broke down, and this erm... gentleman... was kind enough to give you a ride, and that you hope the family won't mind if he joins all of you for dinner.

Please, don't forget for as perfect as your family members think they are, they have just as many "flaws" as the rest of us.

BE YOURSELF, they either love you for who you are or they are not Worthy of even kissing what you leave in the toilet. If you need to sprawl and they object tell them to live with the pain you do and NOT sprawl. If they don't like your clothes, then they can loan you something and SHUT Up about it. Sisters borrow from sisters all the time.. but, ALWAYS remember this.. YOU are what makes the clothes..the clothes do NOT make you. You could drape a Christian Dior Gown on Quasimodo and it won't make him look good, but put a truly beautiful woman such as you in a sack cloth and it will look like a Christian Dior.

You are a beautiful and fantastic woman, strong, caring and loving. Don't ever let ANY One make you feel less than that. If you need us, we WILL be here and are only a trip to the Library away (most have internet access and computers).

I am going to voice a different sentiment. I know your family is trying to make you into something your not however a makeover sometimes is the lift we need. I changed my look about 4 years ago lost alot of weight got a new haircut, new attitude and new clothing style. I became womanly, sexy, feminine. It gave me so much power and confidence. Now 4 years later even though Ive chubbed back up a bit I decided to still keep that confident sexy feeling going. So even if you dont like thier intention of the "gift" take full advantage of it and use it to find a more confident you! Nothing like a new style to see your self different and maybe possibly better. Have fun!

It is always hard Rain to deal with an empty nest around the holidays..but a small suggestion...find your local church charity and cook a meal for a family in need. Even though it is not thanksgiving in Canada, there are always those in need.

then go home, call up the kids on the phone and conference call with a speaker phone.
