I love how everything seems to happen for a reason. Talk about a silver lining..
I called the manager of my apt. yesterday and asked if there was any way that they could put a wheelchair ramp up to the parking lot level, so I am not "stuck" in my apartment area, if there is an emergency. They have no handicap access at all, anywhere on the complex. They told me no, because to do so would make it too dangerous for fire/medical to get to those who need help. So Cali suggested that I ask that they move me temporarily to an apt. up in front, by the office (Which happens to be where her and Fran will be staying) just till I am out of the wheelchair. The girl I talked to says this "I have a better idea, we have a handicap apt. with wheelchair access, on street level, by the pool that you can move into. It is a one bedroom, and because it is wheelchair friendly, it doesn't have a bedroom or bathroom door". I say to her, oh no, I can't have a one bedroom. I can't afford any more rent that what I pay now. She says "No, you don't understand. We are going to give you the apt. at the same rate on a permanent basis!" OMG! I say. Are you kidding? I live in a studio right now, so a one bedroom is definately a step UP. She says "No, we feel badly that you already have a handicap (eyesight) and we can't offer handicap access to you, so it is the least we can do". So I am now moving into a one bedroom, wheelchair accessory apartment, all utilities paid, with a pool view! At the same rental rate I pay for the studio! How is that for my silver lining?
