[:D]   From the sounds of it, I bet that if some of us (holly, Christine, Gwyn and myself and maybe a few others) got together, we could cook enough for about 500-1,000 people. Hmmmmmm, a CM picnic? Just remember, we don't do dishes - we cooked!

Dahlinggggg, when I lived in Houston, I was in charge of food servers for 10,000 to 15,000 people for holiday dinners.  All served in 4 hours or less. And I helped cook and prepare the food as well.  1000 peeps?  We can do that with our eyes closed!

[:D]  Suh - weeeettt!!!  (I know, I'm told I'm a sick wench for loving to cook as I do, but it's so much fun, especially in a properly equipped kitchen.)

I'm not a fan of organized religion, but this is one instance where I make an exception.  In Houston, instead of each church trying to individually help people in need around the holidays, they formed a group called the Citywide Club of Clubs. Many different churches join forces and pool their resources. The convention center is filled with people each Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Eve day, and hot meals are served to anyone who wants one, toys and clothes are distributed, etc. We used the convention center industrial kitchens starting 2 days ahead to prepare food.

I love it when there's a gorgeous lightening storm ripping through right over head. Of course, it means I might have to shut down here soon.....

And Gwyn, I'm still chuckling about the "helium hand"... That sounds sooooo like me!

( I didn't know they gas them these days, Gwyn ), gator, etc.

I hope you make your dream come true someday soon, christine. Bakery/restaurant...interesting.

There used to be a place in Chicago ( I dunno if it's still there or not), that I loved. It was called "The Bowl and Roll". All they served was a variety of soups and fresh baked breads and rolls. I t was fantastic and very succesful.

Soup recipes are almost endless, and when you add stews and chowders and bouilliabaisse and cioppino, etc. the possibilities are endless. And nothing beats good bread to go with it.

Of course, you have to have a good location and a population that is big enough to make a good market.

Good luck with your dream !

Lynnxz -> RE: I love it when..... (5/24/2008 9:25:30 PM)

Mmmm.... bread soup bowls....

christine1 -> RE: I love it when..... (5/24/2008 9:43:34 PM)

thank you cjan!  one day i'll make it happen...

CalifChick -> RE: I love it when..... (5/24/2008 10:43:23 PM)

Okay, here's where I admit one of those things I'm not proud of... like you, Christine, I had a dream. I was going to have a catering business, specializing in relatively small dinner parties of 100 people or less.  I had the menus, tested them out on my friends, had the name (Candlelight Catering), I did everything until I got to the point where I was going to obtain funding... and I chickened out.  I wasn't willing to take that kind of risk on myself, I "needed" the guaranteed income of a regular job.

Now, I do some work for myself part time, but I also work 40 hours a week for others. Sigh.

Make your dream happen, Christine.

i love the food thing too. i once managed a deli. while there myself and one of the cooks developed a recipe for Japenese Soba Salad. it was a big hit in the deli, so i started packaging it and distributing it to delis to all of Humboldt county in cali. i was very pleased that i was able to quit the manager job and make my own product. i was a single mom at the time and this lil business supported myself and my two sons for 2 years. i then got a call ..a literal call to become a nurse.... life is grand when you take what ever opportunities are presented and there always opportunities, always.

oh and i sooo love going on a first meet date and having it be really good. He got me and i got him...another one soon!
may we all find our bliss

sirsholly -> RE: I love it when..... (5/25/2008 3:50:55 AM)

i love that so many here love the big gatherings as much as i do!! I usually have to try to keep the cooking to a low roar...as no one comes empty handed and we end up with more food then we know what to do with.

*chuckles* Helium hand in the Non- profit, and volunteer world means if something needs done, you do it when they ask for volunteers. You are always the first to raise up your hand.. and it kind of does it all on it's own with out you noticing it until you realize you are on 3 boards, directing servieral functions. It has also been known to be the direct cause of burn out. So it can be very dangerous.

Thus far it has caused me to be a feast crat in July ( which I am loving) Secty of the RE committee ( kiddies, and adult ed. at church), Teen Director, Secty and co-ord. of our GLBT group,  a worship associate who has already singed up to do 3 sermons this comming year. My first is on Aug 3rd. I still have to write it. And I am one of the teachers for our "Spiritual Deepening" Series next church year.. so I will be hosting classes, and talks.

I feel bad when I do not raise my hand.. but some times it does stay down... like when they needed somone to take over the sound board upstairs. Nope.. wasnt doin it.

*smiles*

I love working in the kitchen too!

We have some folks from church comming back here after services to have a cook out. I am gonna make some killer food. I will be taking picts hopefuly, and posting the recipes onto my website.

Gwyn,
Not enough hours in the day...

*chuckles* we can go truly old fashioned.. but I like gas camp stoves personaly. LOL

I got one hell of a butcher.. he can get me what ever we need. If some fellers will dig a pit.. I can roast a pig so good you'll slap your own ma-ma for a bite. and as some of you know.. I am also *very* fond of lamb. LOL

The way to some peoples heart is through a big steak.. to mine is lamb. ( mild food intolerance to beef ~ Made some slammin tacos last night.. wanna die this mornin')

Yep.. I love my butcher.

Every one should have a first name basis realtionship.. and know the life story of the person who provides you with your meat.. and sausage. ~ You get good stuff that way.. and it's often cheaper... ( Think of Alice) and you know it will be good. They are not gonna give thier buddy the old crap.

KMsAngel -> RE: I love it when..... (5/25/2008 5:30:35 AM)
