I love that yesterday I was called at work because someone fell in the bathroom/needed to be checked out. She was fine & just needed help getting up/back into her scooter so 3 of us lifted her/all was well. I love that the HR Director came in stating that she "wasn't comfortable" having us do that & the Head of Security told her my credentials and that I am to continue w/what I was doing. I love that the HR Director left & waited outside the bathroom/gave me an earful about the ramifications of me assiting the patient stating that the woman needed to go to the hospital because she fell on company property. I told her that the woman was fine/just needed assitance getting up. She looked me dead in the face & said, "How do you KNOW she's fine". My reply, "Because she TOLD me. You cannot FORCE a fully conscious & aware person w/no altered mental status to go to the hospital just for the heck of it. She'll refuse transport w/the ambulance arrives and you'll have wasted the crew's time when they could be responding to a REAL emergency. I asked her what the problem was? I've heard of folks needing the Heimlich after choking during lunch then refusing to go to the hospital/continued working. I love that I had the backing of our Security Dept./that the HR Director left defeated :)) Though we did comprimise, I took the fallen woman's BP for the record and it was normal. I love that I wasn't intimidated/held my ground. Though I did comment to folks later when I was introduced as the company EMT that I probably won't have a job much longer after the way I spoke to the HR Director! :(
