I love that I was able to maintain my compusure at my friend's funeral yesterday. He was cremated & his wife decided on a "viewing" service only. ALOT of people from the Dept. showed up & that made me so happy, even the young man who suffered those terrible burns last month was in his Class A uniform limping in. I must admit to being a bit worried about the turnout since Gary (my friend) wasn't a "riding member" of the Dept., but he was well known & well liked and so many people wanted to show their respect. I love that I knew Gary's wife & I was able to introduce her to many people who didn't know her but wanted to meet her. I love that she'll be able to take home a book full of signatures of those that loved/respected her husband so she'll know that his many hours away from her were fully recognized/appreciated by his peers. I love that I know so many wonderful people. I love that I rec'd such a BIG BEAR hug from one of the members. A big, GRUFF man who's known for his "temper and sharp tongue" and he cried as he hugged me, saying into my ear" I know you two were close". It was one of those hugs that make you grunt upon initial receipt than as the hug continues you silently pray for air but you don't want to be let go. I love that I'm going to babysit my grandums on Fri. (though I DID take the day off to relax...funny how things turn out:)))
