I love it when Thing 1 is going to a sleepover with a friend, although his friend is a huge PITA. 

I love it when this friend thought he was being cute and, while my friend was here giving me my Christmas present, decided to break out some spanish "slang" (read that as cuss words).  I glared at him, told him he better have a good reason to cuss in my house, being that he's only 12, and a guest in my house.  He looked all stupid, saying, "What?"  I said, "Listen here, you brat, you're in MY house, and I give a shit what your mom lets you get away with where you live, but you aren't man enough to say something like that anywhere around me, without me getting up and setting you straight, you get me?  Now, I suggest you say sorry - like you mean it - or [Thing 1] won't be staying with you and I'll block your phone number from my house.  Anything you wanna say to me?"  He grumped, "Sorry!"  I got up and said, "I think your tone needs some adjustment, you wanna try that again?"  I got it delivered right that time.  Thing 1 looked mortified.  I said, "Son, you wanna hang out with this kid, you better make sure he doesn't disrespect your mother, your grandfather, my guest, or our home.  You want to argue the point, stay home." 

Amazing how compliant things are when da mama gets badass and they don't expect it.
