I saw a post that made me chuckle, when the person used the phrase "frigid clavicle" in place of "cold shoulder." I thought it might be interesting to find out what other interesting euphemisms people use.

My personal favorite:

fecal roster = shit list

Next?

Kittin, that's a simile, not a euphemism.   Tch Tch...such carelessness in identifying parts of speech should be punished, no?  I think you have to write "I will be more careful" 100 times on the blackboard with your knickers down.

Pooh nodded thoughtfully.
"It's the same thing," he said.

Well done, Professor E! (But kittin, I liked your simile anyway...)

Here's what a euphemism is:

eu·phe·mism (yōō'fə-mĭz'əm)
n. The act or an example of substituting a mild, indirect, or vague term for one considered harsh, blunt, or offensive: "Euphemisms such as 'slumber room' . . . abound in the funeral business" (Jessica Mitford).

“To pass away” is a euphemism for “to die.”

Deborah Tannen, a sociologist who's written some very interesting stuff about how people communicate, told of speaking to a Southern woman about a third party, whom the woman referred to as a rather strange fellow.

Upon becoming acquainted with this person, Ms. Tannen discovered him to be most unpleasant.  Later, she asked the Southern woman why she didn't warn her that he was a jerk.  She replied, "I did."

"...the lexicon of rudeness one hears these days is explicitly violent, although the specific words are usually sexual. (Does anyone know why such a nice practice as sex should have to supply the words for uncontrolled hostility? Maybe it would be better that this not be explained to Miss Manners.)"
