it's raining..

today when i awoke

i heard it raining

outside my door

but this time

there is no hiss

i strain to listen

as the street

is used

over and over

again and again

unmerciful tires

creating

a multitude

of slapping

against earth's

very grain

i close my eyes

once again

acute

but today

there is

no hush

only the sounds

of slapping

of wetness

and i imagine

each drop

touching individually

yet falling together

in a type of unison

lashing against

a hard surface

repeatedly

making it pliant

surely the rain

is a master at molding

at slowly slapping

the hardest of surfaces

into total obedience

today when i awoke

i heard the rain

and i understood

all of the sounds

of it's refrain
