i wanted to put this out here for all those who list they are disease free. if the woman you are sleeping with has had more than 4 partners she has a high chance of having HPV. they dont check for it when you get an STD check and most abnormal pap smears are due to it. it is the most common STD in the US and the least talked about up until they started making commercials for the vaccines.

Most people with HPV do not develop symptoms or health problems. But sometimes, certain types of HPV can cause genital warts in men and women. Other HPV types can cause cervical cancer and other less common cancers, such as cancers of the vulva, vagina, anus, and penis. The types of HPV that can cause genital warts are not the same as the types that can cause cancer.
HPV types are often referred to as “low-risk” (wart-causing) or “high-risk” (cancer-causing), based on whether they put a person at risk for cancer. In 90% of cases, the body’s immune system clears the HPV infection naturally within two years. This is true of both high-risk and low-risk types.

HPV infection. Approximately 20 million Americans are currently infected with HPV, and another 6.2 million people become newly infected each year. At least 50% of sexually active men and women acquire genital HPV infection at some point in their lives.
Genital warts. About 1% of sexually active adults in the U.S. have genital warts at any one time.
Cervical cancer. The American Cancer Society estimates that in 2008, 11,070 women will be diagnosed with cervical cancer in the U.S.
Other HPV-related cancers are much less common than cervical cancer. The American Cancer Society estimates that in 2008, there will be:
  • 3,460 women diagnosed with vulvar cancer;
  • 2,210 women diagnosed with vaginal and other female genital cancers;
  • 1,250 men diagnosed with penile and other male genital cancers; and
  • 3,050 women and 2,020 men diagnosed with anal cancer.

Certain populations may be at higher risk for HPV-related cancers, such as gay and bisexual men, and individuals with weak immune systems (including those who have HIV/AIDS).

The HPV test on the market is only used as part of cervical cancer screening. There is no general test for men or women to check one’s overall “HPV status.”  HPV usually goes away on its own, without causing health problems. So an HPV infection that is found today will most likely not be there a year or two from now. For this reason, there is no need to be tested just to find out if you have HPV now. However, you should get tested for signs of disease that HPV can cause, such as cervical cancer.

i wanted to spread the truth.

Good post.

You should see the threads about someone being "given" herpes or warts that crop up from time to time. They either have it and are pissed off, or they don't want to get it and are limiting their number of partners based on fear. Something approaching 90% of the adult population carries herpes I orally.

People are so abysmally ignorant it's not even funny.

And some of us don't have it. Some of us have never had a cold sore. Some of us have asked to be tested directly for this. The fact that 9 out of 10 do have it means that in the U.S.A. with a population of nearly 300 million, there are 30 million of us who don't have it and don't want to get it. So why would you care if I limit my partners to others in that 30 million?

I am getting the Gardasil vaccine. I have already got the first two vaccines, I get my last one in May.

And I have never had an abnormal pap, thank God.

I would be surprised, after only two sexual encounters, if you DID have an abnormal pap (not that it's impossible). We ARE talking about a sexually transmitted disease.

How true! And when men eliminate women on account of them having HPV  or having it in the past, when currently there is no way to test a man for HPV..... Only if he has warts that are visible can he be diagnosed..... Plus there are many strains that show no symptoms. i find that incredibly ignorant as men are giving it to women but not carrying around any stigma for it. I actually saw a statistic that said by the aGE OF 50 , 80% of women will have it. And the men they slept with wont????

Not to derail this thread, but to give you something to think about... did you mention any of that on the thread where you said you didn't like sex after two encounters? And when you said you didn't know why you picked up men online and had sex with them and then they disappeared?  If you did mention that, I missed it, but that might be your big clue right there.

I'm going to link to and quote myself from a two month old post here:
http://www.collarchat.com/fb.asp?m=1543252

"What I was trying to say is that chances are pretty good that if you are sexually active, you have been exposed to these diseases. What are the odds? Probably something like 3 in 4 for most adults - upward of 70%. Castigating someone because she knows she has herpes is sort of absurd. She's just unlucky enough to know for sure. Everyone else just doesn't know it as a fact. And sure, there are some 30% of people that might be disease free entirely - probably esp. true if they have had very few sexual partners.

But if you have ever been a slut of either gender, or intend on becoming one - well, at least know the road you are on leads most likely to diseases that are hard to prevent. All it takes is one partner who has been a slut and you well on your way to joining the slut disease club.

I don't know for a fact that I have either HPV or Herpes of any kind. But it wouldn't necessarily stop me from pursuing a worthwhile person that knows they have one of these diseases. I need more than all of my digits to count up my former sexual partners, so I am not probably stainless in this regard given the odds - I just don't happen to know it for it a fact."

I did not go into detail about my abuse, but it was mentioned. And I have posted several times that I have PTSD.

Really, I think these viruses have always been around like the common cold. But if the drug companies vilify it and turn them into something dirty they can then makes lots of money off of you.

I do not have it, but I am rather shocked that I dont.  My exhusband is carrier and his most recent 2 girlfriends both got it. I am fairly sure he picked it up from one of the hookers he played around with before we divorced, since before them I was only one of 2 sex partners he had ever had. I have been tested several times, especially knowing that he has it. I am clear for cervical cancer signs and I am watchful for any others.

an excellent posting and thank you for the information...
sometimes people do not say nothing until one is eye ball to eye ball with them....such as in my case...
He failed to tell me that He has genital warts....until i finally asked after a month why we did not have sex....then He told me that the warts was a "gift" from a lady He had sex with 6 years ago...
in doing research on this, i read where using condoms will help but the exposure of flesh to flesh can allow the warts to go from one to another person....and oral sex and sex without protection is totally out....

Warts can be burned off.

Once you get HPV, you will always have it.  Whether or not it will actually break you out in warts is another issue.  Some people are just "carriers".

There's 2 types of Herpes:  Type I and Type II.   Type II is what causes cold sores and according to my doctor 6 weeks ago, he says 70% of the population either has or has been exposed to Type II Herpes.  Type I is the nasty genital one.

Do y'all get your yearly physicals? Do you have your blood drawn and tested? You should because not only can they check you for all of the STD's at one time, they'll be able to tell you your macro nutrient content as well and that is valuable information to have on your quest to balance out your diet and stuff.

Warts can be burned off or slowly burned off with acid or you can get a cream to use that will slowly eliminate them. Thing is you can still give someone the virus without the warts at least that is what I have read on the subject. I have had HPV for probably 5 or more years a very nice 'present' from an abusive ex boyfriend. And for the record I have only had sex with 3 guys one being my husband. So I guess I am one of those unlucky ones that got it without having to reach the 4 sexual partner point.

i should point out that HPV and HSV are two different diseases. both of these diseases are extremely common and while they can interupt your life sometimes i dont consider either to be a big deal.

Actually, its the other way around. Cold sores on the mouth is herpes simplex 1
