But just to add a similar question to this... what about if a bruise's coloring goes away, but there is a sort of lump left behind. Doesn't hurt or anything. No swelling. Just a hard feeling underneath the skin... kind of worrisome..

I too bruise from everything- let us know what worked for ya- banana peel side down, ace bandaged to the sight worked for a nasty one I got from sliding into second...

If an extremeity on the same side of that bruise becomes cold, or pale looking. Need to see a doc. A bruise that seems to just expand and not get better, need to see a doc.

Hard painless lumps under the skin after bruises are areas of fat necrosis - or in other words - areas of fatty tissue death. It doesn't do anything to you systemically - you just have a lump. It probably won't go away either. I have an area on my leg where I kept running into surgical beds, and developed an area of fat necrosis.
