This is a pretty good point ... a bit of a surpise, considering your prior contribution to this thread basically consisted of flaming a total strangers on Easter Sunday.

I think a lot of white people, and previously white people like myself, have next to no link with social groups like race, and country of origin. My skin is the color my tanning bed and the Houston sun, say it is. Given the nature of my biological parents, I might be almost anything. I joke about being Irish ... but my link to Ireland, is an Irish last name, and Baileys in my coffee when it's cold. My guess is that many really don't understand these advanced ties to social groups, having no such ties of their own.

To me, the point lost in the zest to flame specific points in the original post, was the notion that we play the hand we are delt ... and perhaps lectures from those that aren't really part of a downcast group, are not all that helpful.

My genetics, I am pretty clueless about. My skin colour, beige with occasional red tints. Oh, I forgot the foot the horse stepped on....it is blue, green, purple, burgundy, and a faint tint of yellow.

There's no use in claiming the glory or the shame of something/someone beyond your control; you can only really be judged, and have responsibility for, your own actions/merit. Anything less, is self-deception.

Caitlyn, the lad might have simply been looking for a manipulation angle. Having said this, the fact he's rich doesn't negate the fact he's open to institutional racism.

For myself, I do not so much take pride in my heritage as I strive to be worthy of it.

In my boys, I take pride in knowing I had a part in growing them into the men they are today.

I find it a bit difficult to have pride in my heritage because I am such a huge mix that I would have to learn about 8 different cultures.So, I take pride in being myself. Sometimes I'm pinkish with yellow undertones, sometimes with red undertones. Sometimes I'm tan with an olive-y look to my skin. Irish, English, Native American, Dutch, German etc.

oh lol, my 1st post want any kind of flame, try to read it with an open mind. it was nothing more than point from the other side of the fence. questions to actually ask yourself. does any of it apply to you? if it does, maybe thats why you saw it as a flame.
if it didnt, youd be saying, hmmm, now theres a different way to think about things.
