Well, it was rather amusing. However does cast a dubious light upon 'we the people'. This is exactly why i dont have my face pics posted....

domahpet -> RE: CollarMe on Something Awful (3/23/2008 11:17:28 PM)

Been a longtime SA fan and honestly I'm surprised they haven't spoofed us sooner than this.

That was my exact reaction when I visited SA -- at first the usual amusement, then the shocking realization that it took so many years for them to discover collarme. I think the goons are slacking in their quest to uncover every subculture capable of being mocked.

TheHungryTiger -> RE: CollarMe on Something Awful (3/24/2008 4:59:11 AM)

Heck, dont need SA to laugh at those people. I have been laughign at them myself for years .....

Anyone else notice that the woman requiring 'proper grammer and puncuiation' used an upper case letter M when she typed in 'me'?

I think it's not very nice and yes.. I know I'm in the minority lol. It's a type of humor I've never really understood, mocking people.[8|]It would be an awful awful feeling to have found my profile there with cutting remarks.

Yup I totally agree, when you put your picture up on CM the idea is that only people looking at CM will see it whihc implies a particular bent on their part, thats a nilla site and it would be terrible if thats the way that people found out about your lifestyle. And I didnt actually find it that funny to be honest, going 'oh look shes fat' isnt really my type of humor.

GreedyTop -> RE: CollarMe on Something Awful (3/24/2008 7:11:14 AM)

the only thing I found 'funny' was that I'd just perved one of those profiles the other day...

It wasn't so much that I expect privacy on my profile, it is online so it is available. What bothered me was the nastiness, the snide comments that belittle how someone looks. That crap isn't funny to me and to be honest I don't get how people can laugh at someone just for being fat or whatever. I feel embarrassed for them, I feel badly for people being mocked and I wish I could show the ones laughing how much it hurts. Even from strangers.I'd thought of CMailing one of the people on that site but then thought maybe they dont know they are up there and it would hurt more. Dunno. I have a niceness fetish (yessssssss I know the real def of fetish lol). Caveat of the day:Pleases be kind enough to overlook spelling mistakes and general lack of clarity. Xtra morphine makes it hard to know if I'm typing okay or not. Thankies muchly and have a good day.

GreedyTop -> RE: CollarMe on Something Awful (3/24/2008 8:11:44 AM)

I do believe she had in her profile that she was a domme and of course you always have to upper case all Her Him He Sir or whatever else one calls their Dominant. I guess.... And this is a public site if people are worried about someone else seeing them they shouldn't put such stupid pictures up. Or maybe not pictures of themselves...

Exactly, camille...i just don't understand ppl who need to make themselves feel better by mocking others. And geez, what a way for the 'nillas in their lives to find out about their kinky side.

hugs and mushy stuff, sorry you're not feeling well

When you post personal information, including pictures, in an area that is clearly in the public's domain, I think it goes without saying that you lose any expectation of privacy.  Because it's clearly a combination of a review, and satire, there's a pretty fuzzy gray first amendment vs copyright issue here.  While CM may be, in a strict sense, a private club, there's no bouncer at the front door, and no admission charged.  If someone sneaks a camcorder into a private but free dungeon carrying a camcorder, they may be morally invading our right to privacy, but the footage he captures there is still protected (from criminal proceedings) by the first amendment.  On the other hand, if someone... erm... featured in the documentary feels they have been wronged, they're entitled to sue in civil court for damages.

I'm not saying SA is morally justified; I'm saying that if we want to keep our...erm...assets in the closet, it's our responsibility to keep them there.  Don't show your ass, unless you're prepared to have someone point at it and laugh.

What's even sadder is when an idiot does not see himself as such.  For those that see humor in this (posting on SA), you maybe better take a long look in the mirror and more importantly understand each of the profiles on this site and others are people in search of validation, understanding in an uncompromising world.  Ultimately, it is in our best interest to be supportive and understanding of all, no matter what our egos may compel us to think or have an opinion of.

You do realize that by calling other people "idiots" for what they choose to laugh at, you're just as wrong as they are, right?

If this was meant to make me feel remorse, nope, keep going.  All I'm doing is realizing how many people take themselves far too seriously to be able to laugh at themselves -- and for that reason, people like me do the laughing for them.

angelbluewingsz -> RE: CollarMe on Something Awful (3/24/2008 10:11:40 AM)

honestly, anything you post here or anywhere on the web is public domain and pretty much everyone know that so I don't see what the big deal is.  - well, shit, maybe I shouldn't have posted my home address-- oh well

I apologize Pyrrsefanie if I gave the impression I was being critical of you as I didn't intend presuming your preseption of anyone or anything in terms of being humorous was disengenuous. Although it may be nothing more than sematics, I do feel there is a big difference between "Finding Humor In" and "Laughing At". I belive no matter the intention, if our action in any context offends someone else, then it is our error not thiers
