I'm curious what other submissives finds works best for them in self improvement.
Do you find yourself Inspired to improve yourself, or to improve do you need the requirement?

I'm not sure what you're asking. But if we were to use the thorny topic of weight control, for instance, I do better if he leads me there. Not telling me to eat healthier or punishing me if I didn't, but getting involved in helping plan healthier meals. And exercising with me. Even if he goes to the weight room and I to a pilates class, we would both go to the gym together making sure each other gets there.

But I like a teacher/student dynamic. So I like him leading me.

Im not hooked up with anyone right now but for me, it depends on the situation. I always look for ways to improve myself. Somtimes I do it myself, sometimes I ask for help, sometimes I need direction. Whatever works for you, you have to find your own path.

thanks Celeste your reply is what i was after.
improvement can be so many things, some larger then others.
i tend to lean to inspiration depending on what i'm working on,
yet possibly need a push at times.

just wondered how others make their best progress is all.

It varies with my girl. If I've suggested something that easy for her, she'll find something that works. If it's harder, it takes a while. Usually, it's just a statement of, "girl, you need to be doing X in your life if you want to feel/get Y." Eventually, she works out what kind of X works. For example, I've told her she needs to find a way to center and ground herself all by herself rather than relying on other people to help her. I told her that, oh, a year ago, I think. I've mentioned it again several times. About two weeks ago, she came to me all excited about a meditation course she's interested in. I'm not sure she even equates this with what I said or if my suggestion/guidance has just finally sunk in.

Pushing on my girl by demanding that she do something isn't the best way to lead her. Having her feel that she has had an active role in finding something that works for her on a personal level is. I CAN insist, however, if I feel she really needs it. I have, in fact, done this and it helped her work through an issue. But, in general, it means more if she comes up with it.

I think that made sense.

For a long time i was so focused on caring for my family and doing what needed doing for them that caring for myself became secondary.

i now answer to a Master and because i wish to please Him and take care of what is His, i take much better care of myself. i take multivitamins, make sure i get enough rest, and put my own needs much higher on the priority list.

So i would say i am inspired to improve myself, as He has not directed me in this -- i do it so i can be at my best for Him. You could also argue though, that i needed Him as an incentive for it, since i wasn't doing it before. Hmmmm.

This could go either way. A Master should inspire his slave to be all they can be. A slave should use self insperation to please their Master. To feed off of each other would be the best way to go.

I believe each person holds the responsibility for improvement--external influences can support but cannot force one to make necessary changes to one's self. Even given that, loved ones, respected mentors, leaders, advisors are often not enough to make one change or improve. IMHO the things that can be required to be improved are usually minor like not misplacing the keys versus not smoking.

I am always on a never ending journey of self improvement. Having said that, sometimes he will suggest an area for me to focus those energies on. The suggestion is all thats needed.

I need the requirement. Otherwise I'm too lazy to do it myself. It's easier if it's an order or request.
