ORIGINAL: pissdoll HOWEVER...in this case, Walmart IS doing the right thing. they paid out almost a half mil for the woman's medical care. the insurance settlement was FOR HER MEDICAL BILLS. why should she be allowed to collect twice? The attorney in the article claims that it isn't soley for her medical bills, though, it was also for future earnings, and pain and suffering. Then they weren't awarded enough. If the lawyers took more than half the award, leaving less than her medical bills to date, there was nothing left for the future. I was lucky with a large corporation. Long story, but when I was laid off, I got a severance package I didn't really deserve. I suspect it was partly to keep me from suing for discrimination (firing because of a disability), but I didn't care. I would never have sued, BTW. Not worth it.
