L.A. lawyer claims TSA agents forced woman to remove body jewelry
Thu 3/27/2008 3:01 PM

updated 1 hour, 31 minutes ago

LOS ANGELES - An attorney claims security agents gave a woman a pair of pliers and forced her to remove her nipple rings in order to board an airline flight.

Los Angeles attorney Gloria Allred issued a press statement Thursday making the allegation but she did not provide details. A news conference was scheduled.

Transportation Security Administration spokesman Dwayne Baird said he had not heard of the incident. Baird said the TSA has no specific policy about body jewelry but if it was big enough to sound an alarm, the person wearing it would not be allowed to pass security until the alarm was investigated.

Baird noted, however, that people wear wedding and other rings through security without tripping alarms.

O.O

How big were the rings is my question.... Haha.
I guess they couldn't have been too big if they could be removed with pliers..  I don't see why she had to remove them though.

My slave wears a steel collar that never comes off. She is usually patted down by security because of setting off the alarm, but she has never been forced to remove it.
It sounds like some airport security person was having a bad day. I am always sceptical anyways when Gloria Allred is involved.

Maybe the guards were having a slow day and wanted to see a pair of breasts.

though of course, i have never been through LAX when it was slow.

Yes, my nipple rings have set off the handheld metal detectors. The female guard asked, "are you wearing?" and I replied, "yes". That was the end of the discussion and she passed me on through.

Try 4 A.M. Oddly enough, you can't get a sandwich or any other sort of lunch food, but you can get vodka. Strange place.

Something i've discovered is that while surgical steel jewelry won't set off any detectors i've been through (and i've got a pretty sizeable amount of hardware, plus a stainless collar, and i've been through a number of major airports post-911), anything that's chrome-plated brass or pot metal will set them off. i have a set of padlock-styled nipple rings that have a stainless "hasp", but a chromed body, and they set off detectors.

I have a friend who is large busted and always wears underwire bras.
Yup, she set off the alarm and had to be patted down.

One guy I know likes to wear a ball stretcher.  He set off the alarm at a court house and when questioned, pulled out his package to show the officers personally.

I don't think I own any jewelry large enough to be removed with pliers if need be.
Mine is all of the smaller arena.

I was thinking the little needlenose kind of pliers, that's what they used to put captive ball hoops in my nips and ears.

I am loaded with jewelry that cannot be removed, rings, bracelets, etc and I have a navel ring, I arrive well early when I travel--I submit to the extra security scans and taps and I have NEVER been asked to remove anything-- and I travel ALLOT----I think this is crap IMHO-

I think the fact that she set off the alarms was cause to have her remove her jewlery. It's a bit foolish to be complaining about an issue like this, in my opinion. The woman showed them, but sometimes they want you to remove metal things to ensure that is the only thing setting off the alarm.

If she sues I'm going to whack someone over the head, to be honest. Get in, get out, and get on with your life. As far as I know, she got on her flight and there was no harm done. (And the pliers were because one of the rings wouldn't come off. Apparently she was crying and the like.)

I take off ALL of my jewlery - ring, earrings, necklace, everything, just in case. Everyone is expected to take out all their change and the like to avoid setting it off. If a quarter isn't dangerous, and we must remove it from our person, why should we expect her to not remove something that set off the alarm?

It's just the way it is.

She was asked to remove it behind a curtain with another female TSA agent?

TSA stands by the decision to have had her remove them, however they now state that they need to revamp it...Apparently she was behind a screen and could hear several men around her laughing and making jokes. Ugh how awful.

But if they had already wanded her, and (presumably) her nipple rings were the only thing setting it off... And they had her remove her top for the female guard... what the heck kind of weapon were they expecting her to hide INSIDE her breast? Or did they think she was going to pull out the nipple ring and blow up the plane with it?

Half the security is inept and the other half is asleap.  People go through all the time and set off the detectors and after being wanded are allowed through.  This is just someone being a jack ass, and the people laughing were probably security because the passengers behind her were probably allowed through.

I've heard of people getting worse through by accident, and people getting stopped for about the same amount of nothing. I think it's gotten more than a little ridiculous, especially since anyone smart enough could probably still get the bad stuff through. I can't believe they actually made her remove it.
