I'd offer advice along the lines of "If they're causing pain then DUH you should have them taken out!"...

...but I've been having pain/issues with mine for years and I'm a complete chickenshit so I've been popping Advil all this time and just pretending nothing's wrong.  So, yeah, hehe.

If he says you don't NEED to have them taken out, then I guess you're good.  Your jaw pain could just be TMJ.  Chiropractic adjustments can sometimes help with that.

what are chiropractic adjustments?

it's okay. I live in the middle of no where...100s of miles from a big city. This is the only clinic that takes Medicaid in the counties in my area. I've looked...asked around. This is the only place. People travel over an hour to go there.

funny how on this thread its totaly ok to say shut up bitch and yet on another...
oh well.

anyway doll parts, its time for you to stand up for yourself girl, really.
think about hitch hiking 150 miles to go give birth.
i lived in the middle of no where too, and did that.
if you sit right behind the driver youll be fine!
i have a really bad bus phobia too, but you can force yourself to do it.
and itll be easier if you go soon so youre not in so much
pain you cant function at all.

even if I was willing to go on a bus...there is no way I could afford the tickets and taxi money. I only get $660 a month. Plus I'm happy with my dentist...could use some pain meds but it's probably for the best if I don't have them anyways with my stomach issues.

If they are causing you substantial pain now, get them out soon if they are in any way impacted.  The older you get, the more firmly they are attached, the harder the bone gets, and the more difficult it becomes to remove them.  I had mine out when I was 40, it turned into pretty intense surgery that took weeks to heal.  In the meantime, they destroyed a couple of my molars.  Not good.

If they are not impacted, and the dentist thinks they will come in normally, I would take his advice and wait a while.  If  you had molars pulled to make room for them, removing them will leave you with only one set of molars.  That means you have no spares, and many years yet to depend on them.  Being without molars is not a good thing.

ah no my molars weren't pulled to make room for them...they were pulled b/c they were rotten...

If you are happy with your dentist and it is best you dont have pain meds then why the complaints about he wont give them to you ????? I DO NOT Understand .........seems you cant have it both ways ....

Lockit -> RE: Should I have my wisdom teeth taken out? (3/30/2008 1:14:23 PM)

dollparts, as you know you are stuck.  When people are in a situation that sounds like your own, they really need to be in a bigger city to be able to deal with the life circumstances.  Smaller communities might have nicer clinic's with less people, but they also might have less serivices.  There are very few in any medical catagory that accept medicaid or medicare because they are not paid enough and besides being an insult to the professional, it doesn't pay for their employee's and insurance much less their services.  Therefore it is hard to find someone.  Those with lower incomes, chronic illness, on medicade or medicare, are often dependent upon clinic's often times created for the migrant worker that the poor can go to.  It can take months to get an appointment and then good luck if it is a dental emergency!

dollparts you have multiple life issues and I do believe you could benefit from talking to a clinic social worker if they have one.  They can often times tell you of services that might be there that you don't know about.  I am not talking about social services, but an actual social worker at the clinic.  But... many smaller clinics do not have them.  Often times even in these clinics or social programs, no one will help you with the information you need to know what to do.  But personally, I would suggest getting to know someone in a bigger city and move at least for a time and try to get to some better services.  You don't seem to have the support systems you need to get unstuck.

It sounds like the dentist is able to get you hooked up in a way and you just need to decide what to do.  Do it, it will be painful, it won't be easy, but you are having more serious problems that need attention. Also, I don't know what it is called, but there is a medication that is a pink liquid that numbs the gums that many don't seem to think about when you are asking for pain control and it is pretty good stuff.  It might help before any work is able to be done.  I wish you luck!

thornhappy -> RE: Should I have my wisdom teeth taken out? (3/30/2008 1:16:31 PM)

Oh yeah...give the real yellow pages a try (the print version by your phone company - if you have to, go to a library and get ones for the surrounding areas) - I've found online ones to be lacking.

Thanks, Lockit!

I have considered moving...I may eventually...if I ever meet a nice Dom hehe but I can't without help...b/c I can't afford first and last months rent...and moving expenses...and then I'd need to find a way to get to my appointments when I don't drive...and stuff...

dollparts85 -> RE: Should I have my wisdom teeth taken out? (3/30/2008 1:24:03 PM)

Thorn- I have a phone book but I sort of gave it to my rabbit to chew...LOL I think my parents have one though, I'll ask them. Thanks for the idea!

domahpet -> RE: Should I have my wisdom teeth taken out? (3/30/2008 1:26:00 PM)

there you go again doll!
You tell Us, what are you gonna do?

KatyLied -> RE: Should I have my wisdom teeth taken out? (3/30/2008 1:26:47 PM)

So you are looking for a nice dominant to rescue you?  Good luck with that.  Why not strengthen yourself and do what you need to do in order to gain more income so you can save first/last month's rent?

ModeratorEleven -> RE: Should I have my wisdom teeth taken out? (3/30/2008 1:30:14 PM)

Folks, enough with the nasty comments and attacks.  Please feel free to use the block button or ignore people if you don't like what they are writing.  This is getting out of control.

CalifChick -> RE: Should I have my wisdom teeth taken out? (3/30/2008 1:35:31 PM)

Okay, seriously, no one is going to rescue you. You are on social security disability, as you have told us, and I believe it was for your diagnosed mental illness.  Correct? You know, that doesn't mean you have to stay on disability for life. You can, if you want to, and if you are willing to put in the effort, get some life skills training and go to work.  I work for a psych doc that does evals for disability. There are many people that qualify for disability, but that really have the ability to work, and I have seen people do just that.

That is a better solution to your problems than hoping someone will come along and rescue you.  It just doesn't happen often enough to even be a possibility.

Lockit -> RE: Should I have my wisdom teeth taken out? (3/30/2008 1:37:32 PM)

dollparts, let's talk in email.  Let's find real solutions here.  This back and forth is going no where.  I understand your situation because of the work I have done.  Rather than do this message board thing, let's go somewhere with the problem and find a way.  I will help if I can.  If there is something out there, we will find it... it might not be there, but we can give a good try.
