kiwisub12 -> quote boxes (3/30/2008 11:09:41 AM)

Ok, I am not a stupid person, but how do you do the quote boxes in the posts?  thanks

TheHeretic -> RE: quote boxes (3/30/2008 11:13:53 AM)

One way is to use the "quote" button at the top right of the post you wish to reply to.  Then trim as necessary.

click on "quote" on the upper right hand side of the post you want to quote.

This may also be of use to you for annoying people with odd coloured fonts etc.[8|]

But, would you say that I'm slightly more awesome? [:D]

Not a problem, everyone needs a little help now and then.

CalifChick -> RE: quote boxes (3/30/2008 11:20:56 AM)

There is a "begin" tag and and "end" tag to each quote box.  The begin tag is [ q u o t e ] and the end tag is [ / q u o t e  ].  There are no spaces, I had to put them in so you could see the tag.  So you can delete anything between the two tags, leaving only the part you want to quote.  If you accidentally delete part of the tag, just retype it in.  If you want to break up someone's post and use multiple quote boxes, just type those two tags surrounding the part you want to quote.  For instance:

[ q u o t e ] This is part one of the quote. [ / q u o t e ]
Here is my response.
[ q u o t e ] This is part two of the quote. [ / q u o t e ]

Will result in this:

quote:

This is part one of the quote.

Here is my response.
quote:

This is part two of the quote.

Read up domah.  You can also quote more than one person by cutting and pasting.

If it's the same markup language here as it is on Bondage, it's like this (I'll use the squiggly brackets [;)] ):
{quote} {quote} blah blah {/quote} Oh yeah? Blah blah yerself {/quote}

of course you are not welded to the popup posting screen, you can minimize it and slosh around other forums and grab posts from anywhere..................

me, I am too lazy, I just grab the next available chunk of handle, so when I say, 'Fuck you, you goddam skank!!!!!'  I am generally saying it to someone 37 pages ago, but just posted it where it lands............that is why everyone can't understance me---I not interesting, I am youst dominate.

Lesson two:  nested quote boxes.

This is where people run into trouble.  Each beginning quote tag has to have an end quote tag.  The tags start at the innermost tag and work out.  Here is an example:

[ q u o t e ] ORIGINAL: Cali
[ q u o t e ] ORIGINAL: Domah
This is Domah's post.
[ / q u o t e ]   <----------- this end tag goes with Domah
This is Cali's response.
[ / q u o t e ]   <----------- this end tag goes with Cali

Will get you this:

quote:

 ORIGINAL: Cali

quote:

ORIGINAL: Domah

This is Domah's post.

This is Cali's response.

If I want to take out domah's post, I have to delete everything in green, or it will "break" the quote and not come out right.

Cali, i think your new nickname is smartylicious...

CalifChick -> RE: quote boxes (3/30/2008 11:34:40 AM)

LOL Christine!  I actually have a degree in computer programming from wayyyyy back when, and nested commands are pretty much a fundamental to writing software.  Amazing what I can remember from oh, back when dirt was new.

i think it's amazing you can remember that far back at all!  i'd probably hurt myself if i tried to remember something from my college days...i mean academic wise heh.   say, that reminds me of that time in the library when i was trying to sneak a loaf of bread in past the no food allowed sign...
