So far, so good on the CWD. And it seems the DNR is keeping it a priority - even with the mess they are making of everything else. I know two of the local outfitters personally, and business was booming this last season. Not only deer hunting, but goose season was the best around here in years. The local paper has had a Sunday fishing report the last three weeks and the reports of good sized walleye, northern pike and muskie are all over in the area lakes - with public access, even. It is selling as "recreational" acreage and going for upwards of $4500/acre. 10 years ago, it was selling for $150/acre. Hunting and fishing is not on the decline in my neck of the woods.
