xxxkitten -> Piercing help! (3/31/2008 2:43:35 PM)

I doubt the health forum is the place to ask, but I REALLY need help. I have a piercing with 16 gauge jewelery in it because I was too chicken to get the 14 gauge. It's been about 4 months and now I want the 14 gauge. Do I just, as my best friend put it, "Do 7 shots of Jack and shove it in"? Do I have to get it repierced? None of my friends-except the Jack Daniels fan noted above- have any ideas. Anybody have a suggestion?

Go to a piercer and ask them to put it in.

-.-

Depends on what your skin is like, where it is, how it fits, etc.

If it's well healed and someplace stretchy, and your current jewellery turns nice and easy and it's well healed... try the 14ga, but if it hurts like hell don't force it. Or get something like these.

Last thing you want is blow-out, and it's a pain in the arse to get rid of.

It's a hood piercing, so I don't know if it's stretchy. Jewelery I have now fits great, so I'm gonna try the 14. Thank you for the help.

I too would recommend going back to where you had the piercing done to have the jewelry changed.  You are only going up one size in gauge so it should not be that painful.  However, for genital piercings you need to ensure that the jewelry is very secure, so it is best that a professional with the correct tools changes it.

Best,
Patience

Slow down and go get a professional to do it. If you do it yourself you could cause it to tear and get infected yuk!!!!!! So many times I've wanted bigger gaged jewelry cause it seemed better than the stuff I already had. I only had to fuck up once to hate that "cooler" looking piece of jewelry. Then having to patiently wait for it to heal so I could go through the pain again "I'm not a masochist" No  thanks! It's ALWAYS better to wait for the professional in my experience.

It should be pretty easy to stretch... genital piercings in general heal well and stretch readily.

As lovelylucy said, if the jewelry you have doesn't move easily in the hole or still feels sore, leave it alone until it feels as though it's healed.

16>14 is a pretty easy stretch. However, your best bet may be to go back to your piercer just because (depending on your anatomy and flexibility, of course) it'll be easier for them to do. They should also have a "taper", which is a smooth stainless rod that tapers gradually from 16ga to 14ga, and has a recess in the larger end to accept the end of the new jewelry. With that and a little bit of sterile lubricant, it should be just about painless.

If you do it yourself, best time to do it is after a nice hot shower. Remove the ball from your existing jewelry, and put a little bit of water-based lube on it. Work the lube through the piercing as you pull the jewelry out, then immediately put the new jewelry in. It's easiest if you can actually push the existing jewelry out with the new, but it depends how much room you have to work down there.

Good luck!

Just for the record, they do have piercing upsizing kits for resizing or increasing your gage. That's what i had done when i upsized. Felt a little pinchy and kinda stang for a short while afterwards, but no biggie compared to having the piercing done in the first place!
