My clinic won't let me see anyone else. I've asked so many times. They won't let me. She's not even a doctor. She's a nurse practitioner.

I just noticed that there is a refill on my Buspar! She must have changed her mind after she said she wasn't going to do a refill on it and wrote one down.

woohoo! So I have enough to take it at night and once during the day if I need more.

Well you should talk to your doc asap. And you should really contact medicaid and see if there is another doc you can see in your area or even if it is a little bit of a distance away as long as it isn't a couple of hours drive you should be able to get there. They have transportation from places such as churches and other organizations that charge a few dollars to take you somewhere...if they don't listen find one that will...you have to put your foot down and TELL them you NEED another doc for your health....and they HAVE to give you another option. greetings dollparts,

i took buspar before starting effexor because it's relatively more benign than most anti-anxiety meds. i think i was on 10mg at night, but my pdoc wanted me to do 5mg twice a day...i couldn't because it made me too fatigued to take it in the morning. personally i like effexor more because it doesn't make me fatigued and it's more effective overall.

as far as wellbutrin goes, some eating disorder patients can actually take that. i am an eating disorder patient and my (very competent) pdoc was considering putting me on wellbutrin instead of effexor. it may not be right for all patients at all times, but that doesn't mean that every eating disorder patient absolutely cannot take it.

as far as listening to your doc vs. your pharmacist; my finding is that if you think that there is a contraindication, bring it up to your doc as soon as you find out. my pain mgmt doctor accidentally prescribed me something the other day that, combined with effexor, made me extremely ill. doctors don't have as much education as pharmacists on meds in general, but they do usually have the intelligence to at least double check contraindications and respond if something's wrong.

How many mg Effexor are you taking? I had awful reactions on 300 mg...electric shocks in my brain...plus really bad sexual side effects. It was the worst pill I've ever taken...hardest to go off...I got suicidal every time I tried to go off. Finally went off it when I was IP.

225mg. most people don't go over 150, though.

the only thing i don't like about it is it screws with my libido and when i'm adjusting to new doses (for a month or so) it kills my appetite, which basically undermines recovery.

my room mate in the hospital was taking 375 mg of Effexor...I didn't know it went over 300! LOL she had no side effects from it either.

my sexual side effects started at 225 mg...I couldn't climax anymore...no matter how hard I tried...frickin sucked LOL I was on Effexor for like two years...

I was taking it combo with Wellbutrin, Geodon, Topamax AND Seroquel...at one point...and I was so suicidal...it was awfull. I just cried...all day long...for weeks...and my doctor wanted to INCREASE the Seroquel...LOL I'm like NO I'm going off it. LOL

did you just stop taking it or wean yourself off it gradually. I know that with some meds if you stop taking it altogether, you get horrible effects like that...

Effexor withdrawal syndrome is pretty well documented.
Why are you seeing a nurse practitioner for this sort of treatment? Wouldn't a psychiatrist be more appropriate?

Hopefully her lack of training might have an affect on the number of these types of threads.

I tried lowering the dose myself a few times...and going off it...but I felt too bad...eventually went off it when I was in the hospital back in Nov.

My old psychiatrist said I didn't need to see him anymore and put me off onto the np.

Do you have any idea the amount of training a psychiatric nurse practitioner needs?
I think many people do not realise it is a highly specialized program.
