greetings dollparts, i took buspar before starting effexor because it's relatively more benign than most anti-anxiety meds. i think i was on 10mg at night, but my pdoc wanted me to do 5mg twice a day...i couldn't because it made me too fatigued to take it in the morning. personally i like effexor more because it doesn't make me fatigued and it's more effective overall. as far as wellbutrin goes, some eating disorder patients can actually take that. i am an eating disorder patient and my (very competent) pdoc was considering putting me on wellbutrin instead of effexor. it may not be right for all patients at all times, but that doesn't mean that every eating disorder patient absolutely cannot take it. as far as listening to your doc vs. your pharmacist; my finding is that if you think that there is a contraindication, bring it up to your doc as soon as you find out. my pain mgmt doctor accidentally prescribed me something the other day that, combined with effexor, made me extremely ill. doctors don't have as much education as pharmacists on meds in general, but they do usually have the intelligence to at least double check contraindications and respond if something's wrong. respectfully, annabelle.
