Is it just me or does it seem like when you are in a relationship with someone...their body oder seems to be a turn on? Sounds weird I know and the smell coming from anyone else really gorsses me out but when I am with my Daddy and I catch that smell I am instantly turned on. And I am not talking about he has been working out at the gym and is all sweaty kind...i mean what is on him nautrally. Like when I go down on him and I smell it I go nuts..... Why? What is it that is causing me to become excited? It should be a gross thing...right?

No, why do you think the natural scent of a body should be gross?  With the right person, it is very erotic. I've been told by several people that my natural scent is quite yummy (and I'm not talking about just the girly part scents).  Now if I can just wave my armpit at the right person....

When James is all sweaty , not work out sweaty but hanging out in pants just got out of my clothes in the balls and  penis area I actually find the smell offensive and  will not put my face anywhere near his genitals.

I am very attuned to scent, my friends joke that I must be part bloodhound.  lol  Yes, I ADORE the natural "guy" scent on a special guy.  Yum.  Especially if he has been out doing yardwork out in the sun.  Or working on the car.  Awesome guy-smell and grease?  I melt!

Conversely, the scent of the "wrong" guy is a complete turn-off.  I can pick up on it, and eww.  A scent that while is not particularly BO, but is one that is a definite dealbreaker.  Since hindsight is always 20/20, (but looking back, its still a bit fuzzy), turns out that guy with the bad scent was not the one for me.

Now, the scent of a woman, is something altogether different, but still the same.  The "right" girl's natural scent would send my mind reeling, the "wrong" one would make me run screaming into the night.

"Gene determines whether male body odor smells pleasant
Largest study of its kind reveals that an ingredient in male body odor can smell like urine or take on a vanilla scent depending on single odorant receptor gene

To many, urine smells like urine and vanilla smells like vanilla. But androstenone, a derivative of testosterone that is a potent ingredient in male body odor, can smell like either - depending on your genes. While many people perceive a foul odor from androstenone, usually that of stale urine or strong sweat, others find the scent sweet and pleasant. Still others cannot smell it at all.

New research from Rockefeller University, performed in collaboration with scientists at Duke University in North Carolina, reveals for the first time that this extreme variability in people's perception of androstenone is due in large part to genetic variations in a single odorant receptor called OR7D4. The research is reported September 16 as an advance online publication of the journal Nature.

Androstenone, found in higher concentrations in the urine and sweat of men than of women, is used by some mammals to convey social and sexual information, and the ability to perceive androstenone's scent may have far-reaching behavioral implications for humans.

In the largest study ever conducted of its kind, researchers at Rockefeller University presented nearly 400 participants with 66 odors at two different concentrations and asked them to rate the pleasantness and intensity of each odor. When scientists at Duke University identified OR7D4 as a receptor that androstenone selectively activates, Leslie Vosshall, Chemers Family Associate Professor and head of the Laboratory of Neurogenetics and Behavior at Rockefeller University and Andreas Keller, a postdoc in her lab, formed a collaboration with them, and began collecting blood samples from participants and isolated their DNA. The Duke team, led by Hiroaki Matsunami, used DNA from each participant to sequence the gene that encodes the OR7D4 receptor.

"With this large dataset, we are able to say that people who express different variants of this receptor perceive this odor differently," says Vosshall.

Although it has long been suspected that the ability to perceive the odor of androstenone is genetically determined, this study is the first to identify variations in a single gene that account for a large part of why people perceive androstenone's scent so differently.

With their Duke collaborators, Vosshall and Keller identified two point mutations called single nucleotide polymorphisms along the gene, which gave rise to two variants of the odorant receptor: RT and WM, which differ by two amino acids. As a group, participants with the RT/RT genotype perceive androstenone's odor as foul and intense. Those with the RT/WM genotype, on the other hand, are more likely to perceive androstenone as less unpleasant. Many cannot smell androstenone at all. Although some participants with the RT/WM genotype can smell androstenone, they experience the smell very differently than those with two copies of the fully functional receptor: To them, androstenone doesn't smell like urine; it has a vanilla scent.

"There are two independent things that are interesting about this odor," says first co-author Keller. "One is that it is a potential social signal but the other one is that so many people cannot smell it."

Two additional point mutations in some of the participants influenced their sensitivity to androstenone, one of which may make humans hypersensitive to this odor. Vosshall and Keller are interested in what it is about these amino acid changes that alter one's perception of androstenone's scent, and in whether one's perception of this potent compound can influence behavior.

"Since some mammals clearly use androstenone to communicate sexuality and dominance within a social hierarchy, it's intriguing to think whether the same thing may happen in humans," Vosshall says. "If so, what happens to humans who can't get the signal because they have the nonfunctional copy of the gene" Or the hyperfunctional one" What could be the social and sexual implications of this on one's perception of the smell of fellow humans""

No, it is not just you.  My husband always has a little chuckle whenever I take a deep whiff of his delicious personal smell.  I have a very finely attuned sense of smell.  I consider it a blessing most times.....especially whenever a guy has that delightful, delicious manly scent.

I definitly think that the scent of a person can be a turn-on...
When it's phrased as "body oder" I'm a little unclear, but "the scent of a woman" now it's clearer than a well cut diamond.

I rubbed all over HoneyMasters chest tonight, until He pushed me away because I was inhaling his scent.
It's very nice though!

The first time that I went far away from Daddy, he gave me one of his most favorite and cherished t shirts to put on the stuffed stegosaur I carry. For me, it was a visual reminder of him, and the fact he trusted me with his most prized t shirt, as well as the fact it was HIS shirt.

Body odor to most have a negatice context of being unclean/unwashed   better word choice to use is pheromones
All mammal within the animal kingdom produces pheromones which can alert others to danger, an aid in calming an aid parental/infant bonding and recognition and also for attracting mates

an easy to understand explanation about pheromones http://www.unc.edu/~pbermel/group5/ppframe.htm

In my last relationship (I think for the sake of brevity, I'll just say "MLR" in future posts) scent featured prominently. A "clean" sweat, B would hug me and say, "mmmm Manly". Her scent just absolutely attracted me. I still remember the way her hair smelled, and she still remembers how I smell. I have a quilt she gave me which is just so reminiscent of her that it will influence my mood if I smell it.

I have always been attuned to a particular scent, which I cannot at all describe, but which drives me nuts. It's not subliminal, it's right there in my face.

I could (maybe cannot so much anymore, don't know) almost always tell when a woman was ovulating, too. Sometimes it was a total turn-off, sometimes it was intoxicating. I've even gone down on a couple chicks who were having their periods (how many of you tough guy "doms" can say that, eh?) because their aroma just really turned me on. IOW, I earned my "Red Wings".

I don't know if aroma has anything to do with rimming a spanking clean, inside and out, woman. I've only done that to a few chicks. I haven't really anal-yzed (hahaha) why, as I have had the opportunity to do it to many more chicks, but it's only been those few. I'm sure how turned on I was had a lot to do with it. I really got off seeing B squirm when I did it in MLR. Hot. Anyhoo...

After mowing, edgeing, trimming,  and remulching the yard, I'll walk in hot and sweat. My wife then gives me a hug, takes a big whiff and says "You smell like a man." I'll leave what comes next to your imagination.

There's a difference between the body odor that says 'BAD hygiene' and the smell of fresh sweat.  The smell of fresh sweat mixed with motor oil and gasoline.... well it smells like a MAN to me and is absolutely a turn-on.
