I am probably not alone in my love for being bitch slapped. Recently, however, I was told that being slapped in the face could put one in danger of suffering a detached retina. Does anyone know anything about such a possibility?

As with everything human beings do, there is always some risk. How much risk depends on experience and understanding and should be weighed before you do any activity. Slapping is something I greatly enjoy but I never worry about causing damage because of the care I take when I do slap. No, it would not be classified as a "bitch slap" but probably a very intense display of authority and power between two people deeply connected to each other. Because I am fully aware that slapping can also have a profound emotional impact it is not something I do casually or often but that's my standard.

I can speak only for Myself, which seems to be a rather loud voice today. My first slave, michael, had this as one of his hard limits. It wasn't an acitivity that I explored until years later. I didn't get into face slapping until I met My pet, at a much later opportunity. I see it today as I do many other things. Do your research. Understand your top, and yourself. Know what you are getting into before taking on this, or any other form of play.

As with all techniques, it is all about the Top's control in the wrist, varying the connection and impact. I enjoy face-slapping, yet I adore more the leather gloved, face/chin grab, that alone can have the same impact, as a swift, sharp slap.

I've never been big on getting face slapped. but I have enjoyed being pulled by my hair, getting the face/chin grab as mentioned above, or having a hand around my neck like being choked. Those have always worked for me.

I have heard at least one woman say she does not like sting and prefers the slap delivered with the palm for its heavier impact. I have heard (don't quote me on this), that slapping with the fingers to the cheek, as your other hand is holding the other persons head, is safer. That way, you are supporting their head to avoid whiplash, and using your fingers on the cheek controls the impact. Nothings ever absolutely safe, but there are better ways to do things I suppose. I would guess that backhanding someone is a little less controlled, and more likely to hit closer to the eyes. I have also heard, that a person who has received laser eye surgery, is more prone to eye injury from an impact like this. I remember when I was in basic training, our DS saying something about certain types of laser surgery could disqualify you from joining the army, because a heavy impact could cause the lenses of your eyes to burst.... craziness. This could also be our DS's being odd again, but you never know.

If it's a light slap, I'll do it without holding someone's head. For anything serious, I'll have my other hand on the other side of their face. I have no desire to give someone a neck ache (or worse) for a week (or more). I want my forms of torture to be deliberate and controled - not the result of fucking up. Face slapping is something I enjoy, I'm getting all hot even thinking about it [:D]

If you do it wrong you can break an ear drum, damage the eye socket, detach the retina, break the jaw. This is very edgy play and requires people to know what they're doing and to be willing to take the risks. Since I've got implants in both eyes, it's way too risky for me.

Very edgy play…perhaps if one winds up like a world-class pitcher! Everything is relative. If someone cradles a face in one hand and lightly slaps a cheek…winding from the wrist, not the shoulder…how on earth is that very edgy play? Face slapping is a limit with me...not a hard one but a limit nonetheless.I don't like it and i never have seeing i was slapped hard in the face at a wedding for no reason whatsoever.The woman doing the slapping really hauled off because i accidentally brushed her boob as i was turning to carry drinks from the bar.That happened in the days when i had a hair-trigger temper so let's us just say what followed wasn't pleasant..no i didn't strike her...but i made it clear that her actions were unacceptable and if i had to..next time i would hit back and then looked at her boyfriend who was a good friend of mine and said.."and you won't do a damn thing about it either".Of course i have had a serious attitude adjustment since then..oh hell that was 34 years ago.I am not one of those types to run to a local play party and be humiliated in front of others.I am very private about my life and what i wish to achieve but i wish for all of it to be behind closed doors or gates or whatever.
