MM, I have no clue how my daughter intends to live in Japan. She gets some some wild ideas at times, like any teenager (she's 18). She also gets some good ones but lacks any practicality to implement them but won't listen to anyone who does have the practicality to implement them. My biggest fear for her would be that she just shoots off her mouth without thinking at times and in Japan, you just don't do that. It would be a very hard, painful lesson for her. Hmmmm, maybe she needs it!

LadyRainfire, do you know Japan?

I know that people do travel over there and move over there, who have modest funds, but I'm not sure how.  When I stopped in a little Japanese music shop, recently, the Japanese owner told me that to visit Tokyo, you could take $10,000, and it would hardly get you through the month.  He said, if you're going to Japan, you need to have people to stay with.  I wonder how what he said could be possible, and anyone get a foothold there, before they drowned in high costs.  People do it, though, so there must be a way.

Coincidentally, yesterday I happened upon a lecture given locally, by a man who's half Japanese, half Caucasian, and was brought up on both the U.S., and Japan.  I think his book is called, JapanAmerica - something like that, - about the cross-cultural influences, especially the current upsurge of American fascination with Japanese culture and media, arts, fashion.

There is a mutual fascination.  For example, I see that in all of the album covers and music videos for one of the top rock bands in Japan, L'Arc~en~Ciel (French name, Japanese musicians), whenever they feature female models or actresses, they are Caucasian.

I have no idea how anyone could do, not in a metro area like Tokyo, MM. The only way I could remotely think of it would be to either have friends/family waiting to live with, a place at uni, or be ultra-rich and not care about money. Or go live out in of the more rural areas. Personally, while Tokyo might be nice to visit, I'd rather go see northern Japan. The baths, hot springs, rural isolated villages that hearken back to a more traditional time.... That's what I'd like to see. Oh - and to see a traditional sakura festival!

what do you say when you come across a family member's profile completely by accident?
PM
Mmmm, that would be... interesting. Especially if it were my mother. LOL

Though it would lead to even more interesting conversations between us. We've been close and friends for many years.

got one better.. a fellow upstanding member of my church ( we are talking church leadership here) found my profile... LOL and I found hers. After one of our meetings we sat on a couch in the rectory and drank a bottle of wine chatting about CM and stuff from here. *snickers*

I am tellin ya if she wasnt dating a friend of mine damn it.

Gwyn,
I love my church
