An opthamologist would definitely recognized the signs of possible MS as when looking into the eye would see damage to sheath of the optic  nerves, I went thru a period of time were my nerves started causing tingling in my arms and legs along with tremors and I would collapse when trying to stand or simply could not stand so  arrangements where made for me to see a neurologist for suspected MS  but is was a 6 month wait to get in, by the time I got in the symptoms abated, the neurologist decided it was not worth putting me thru a spinal tap unless the symptoms re-occured, later when I went to an opthamologist they asked me if I had any health issues so I brought up,   so he checked so see if he could see any signs of demyelination of the optic nerve not seeing any signs of he felt it was safe to assume that what I had experienced was not MS, that was about 25 years ago   I hope this is not the case  normally symptoms begins as I was told normally between ages 20 and 30  there after going thru periods of relapses and remissions. So there may be good odds that what you are experiencing is not MS.  Being it is affecting your vision , I would not recommend waiting so long to get a diagnosis   because with several eye issues whatever loss you experience is irreversible and early treatment/intervention  can prevent further deterioration

here is some info on optic neuritis related to MS http://www.mult-sclerosis.org/opticneuritis.html
