Im on the yaz , the birth control pill, I was wondering if you could get pregnant during the time when you take the placebo pills ( during your cycle)?

No, you can't. Unless you've been either very unlucky, or were careless about taking it, or both. The Pill ensures protection from pregnancy at all times.

If in doubt, contact your friendly family planning clinic, or personal doctor.

You shouldn't be taking the pill if you do not know the answer to that basic question sweetie, or have to ask a bunch of strangers not your doc.

Only abstinance is 100% effective.

I got pregnant on the birth control shot. Shit happens. That being said the odds of getting pregnant on a birth control shot are very very slim, I think its 1 in 1000.

The main problem is that people can forget to take their pill everyday and a lot of antibiotics can hinder the affectiveness of birth control, so the odds of getting pregnant on the pill are more like 1 in 100 (my research may be off I haven't needed birth control for over a year).

If your doctor didn't discuss your options, the pro's and con's of each you can easily research birth control on your own via the net and if you feel the pill isn't the wisest choice for you, simply tell your doctor on your next visit you'd like to try such an such.

Yes. It is quite possible even if you are very diligent with taking your pills each day at the same time. It all depends on when YOUR body ovulates. There are a great number of factors that can lessen the effectiveness of the pills-- antibiotics being one that has already been mentioned. Nothing is absolutely 100% effective except complete and total abstinence, as already mentioned.

Talk to your health care provider for all of you questions-- a message board is certainly not the place to depend on for your health, although there are many here that do have backgrounds in the healthcare field.

(I am a former nurse-midwife but that sure doesn't make me an expert on your health care needs)

I know a couple of women who have gotten pregnant while on the pill. They both swear they never missed a dose, but both have kids proving something went wrong.

I have 3 kids. 2 of them are named oops damn pill didnt work. Wife even showed me the packet, she never missed You never know if you are just an incubus. After the first, the doc put her on something stronger and 9 months later, opps #2.

From the age of 17 to 30, I was on the pill continually, several kinds/strengths, I had six pregnancies, after my third live birth I had my tubes tied, and a year later was pregnant again, but that ended up to be an ectopic pregnancy. so it can happen. But I agree with everyone else, talk to your doc/gyno etc.

I wish people were careful in the assertions they make with regards to this kind of subject... and that they were a little better informed than this.

What do you think the Pill does? In a nutshell, it blocks ovulation. Therefore, a woman on the Pill doesn't ovulate - unless an unlikely fuckup occurs. So... what on earth are you talking about???

The Pill is one of the most effective birth control methods. If used correctly, a combination pill such as Yaz will ensure that less than one woman out of one hundred will get pregant in the course of one year. The figure is slighter higher for those woman who take the progesterone only pill.

Of course abstinence guarantees no pregnancy! But that's hardly a birth control method, is it? I mean, do nuns practice birth control?

Yes, you can become pregnant when on the pill. It is not 100% effective. Especially when you interact some medications (antibiotics) with it. Please talk to the doctor who prescribed your pills and educate yourself.

Okay, the question was, can you get pregnant during the week of sugar pills.
The answer is, if the pill failed to prevent you from ovulating, which can happen for a number of reasons, then yes, but you can get pregnant ANYTIME in that case. The fact that you are taking sugar pills for the week of your scheduled estrus does NOT increase the likelyhood of your getting pregnant during that time. That, and I have been told by a few women who have used me for medicinal purposes that sex is the best cure for cramps.

Still need to get a decent artist to draw the , ride the red river, image that i want to turn into a shirt.

I am a guy and have never been pregnant, never taken the pill and have never ovulated. I think that is a good thing ( for many reasons ) because I thought that the woman's fertile time was somewhere around 15 days after her period and that the period time was safe because the bloody mess that was coming out of her was her uterine lining, which would also inhibit fetal attachment.

I think that 4 years of college and practicing as a nurse-midwife for many, many years kept me pretty danged informed. Sorry you seem to disagree. I certainly didn't come on making some random, uninformed assertation.

Unlikely fuck-ups occur all the time. And yes, a woman will ovulate even if on the pill-- what on earth do you think causes unwanted pregnancies while on the pill? Pregnancy cannot occur without ovulation! *Doh!* If the effectiveness of the pill is lessened from other medications or some other reason, ovulation will occur. And not all women ovulate according to the text-book tables. Some even ovulate while menstrating. Ovulation can occur at any time during a woman's cycle. Especially if there are other factors going on in the body.
