From experience... and now having walking talking proof... you CAN get pregnant using ANY form of birth control. Even if it's unlikely, or people generally don't, you still can. Always take care.

Super fertile.  I bet shooting you the right look can get you pregnant.

For a while it seemed that way yes, my gyno told me to leave hubby alone, that he had nuclear powered spermies.
Both families are super fertile. My sister went thru three years of using double condoms and the pill, just to make sure.

You can get pregnant on the pill, i have a 16 year old to prove it. Granted i was taking an antibiotic for a bladder infection at the time of got pregnant and the MD forgot to mention that certain medications can override the pill.
Nothing is for certain except not having sex.
But you really need to educate yourself with the help of your MD that prescribed the pill.

I just wanted to add that if it makes you feel more comfortable, just use a condom during those few days on the sugar pill.

Yes, yes, yes, people get pregnant on the pill.  People get pregnant with an IUD.  People get pregnant when they think they've gone through menopause, and people get pregnant when their partner has had a vasectomy.  Nothing's fool proof, except for abstinance.

But, if you're worried, use a condom.  It'll probably help you enjoy the sex more, since you won't be worrying about the consequences of a climax on his part, and shit dude, there's natural lubrication down there during those days of the month, so you don't even need to worry about that ;)

I've never seen a birth control pill that claimed to be 100% effective.  They usually say 97% or 98%, which still leaves 2 or 3 out of every 100 getting pregnant. 

Many of the pills out on the market today are of such a low dose, that missing even one day can trigger ovulation.  I said "can" not "will".....but it's possible.  I mean, look how many stories you hear of women having babies while on the pill.  It's nowhere near 100% effective. 

Someone mentioned taking antibiotics while on the pill....this is a biggie.  Certain antibiotics can make the pill ineffective while you're taking them. If you have to take antibiotics for an infection of any kind while on the pill, and you really don't want to be a mommy, it's a real good idea to use a back-up method (condom, foam, abstain, etc.) until the antibiotics are gone AND you've completed that cycle of pills, had your period, and are back on the regular pills.  I honestly don't know how antibiotics affect the pills that only let you have 4 periods a year (or however they work).  Best to check with the doctor, and I'd be really interested in hearing what they say.

As long as you didn't miss a pill, didn't have diarrhea or vomitting or take medication that can cause them [like antibiotics], and presuming you weren't pregnant from previous months [no spotting or bleeding during the previous 2 months while you took your pills] and your period comes during your placebo pills. . .
That's why two birth control methods are favoured.

I got pregnant on the birth control shot.  Shit happens.  That being said the odds of getting pregnant on a birth control shot are very very slim, I think its 1 in 1000.

The main problem is that people can forget to take their pill everyday and a lot of antibiotics can hinder the affectiveness of birth control, so the odds of getting pregnant on the pill are more like 1 in 100 (my research may be off I haven't needed birth control for over a year).

If your doctor didn't discuss your options, the pro's and con's of each you can easily research birth control on your own via the net and if you feel the pill isn't the wisest choice for you, simply tell your doctor on your next visit you'd like to try such an such.

Which is why I got tired of watching my wife struggle with the side effects, the cost, the difficulty in using the pill, and put up the $250 to get a vasectomy. (also 100% effective, with far fewer complications, and no cancer risk in the long term.) Now the only concerns we have are protection from STDs whenever we invite other people to be a part of our lives.

Maybe you should just have your S.O. snipped?

Well I've had 3 pregnancies and 2 children. 1 being splash conception, the other two while using hormonal contraceptives.

I have a friend that got pregnant 3 times while on the pill, she was living with her mom at the time and her mom watched her take the pills at the same time everyday. She had 3 kids in 3 years. It is possible no matter what some women are just super super fertile. Also, now this is from what I have read on some birthcontrol pills I am NO expert but from what I have read some pills will let you ovulate but something in them keeps them from sticking to the lining of the uterus so you have no way of getting pregnant.....I have no idea about Yaz or any of the other 4 month long bc pills. I don't practice birth control and I have no kids lol lucky I guess...

   Eep, you all are going to scare the girl!

   Presumably she knows that the pill isn't 100% effective.

   Given that, even during the week of placebos, the pill is just as effective as it always was. So, yes, there is a small possibility you could get pregnant during that time. But no, the risk is no higher than any other time during the cycle.

I had one of those... it went wonky and started gouging my insides, then I started having contractions trying to reject it...

Apparently I'm not only super-fertile, but I have a wonky uterus.

It's possible but not likely. You want to take the placebos so you can have your cycle. By continuing to take just the pill but not the placebo can lead to you getting pregnant.

Anyhow, there's only a couple froms of Birth Control/Safe Sex that garuntees no pregancy.

1. Hysterectomy

2. The man is nutered

Everything else is only 99.999999999999% at best includeing No SEX!.

Do read your pill's information sheet and discuss this issue with your GYN.

The basics that apply to *all* birth control pills (again, see your pill's documentation and speak with your gynecologist for the specifics regarding that one in particular):

The effectiveness rating stated for a birth control pill applies to the entirety of your cycle, having your withdrawal bleeding or not.  You are not more likely to become pregnant during your placebo week than any other time in the month(s) when on the active pills.

The effectiveness of pills ranges from 96-99% when taken completely, totally perfectly for that particular pill (no interfering substances, medications, delayed or early or missed pills, etc; that you were prescribed the correct pill/dosage for your age and weight).  None are 100%. 

When working correctly, most BCPs do one or all of the following to prevent pregnancy:  halt ovulation, inhibit the lining of the uterus from fully developing, thicken cervix mucus and/or preventing the cervical changes that aid the entrance of semen to the uterus just before and during ovulation.

So the short answer is:  You're just as covered during the placebo week as any other week if everything is done right and the pill is working at peak effectiveness.  If something isn't right, something causes the pill to be at lowered effectiveness, any time of the month is open for fertilization... it has nothing to do with the timing of your withdrawal bleed, but on the timing of what went wrong.

Well it appears that either birth control pills are highly unreliable or many of you are incapable of reading directions and following them...My money is on the latter.
