i have a great idea. Lets pass out strips of litmus paper to all of us who have lost a child. Allow the tears to fall on the strips and they can then be used for a collage. Perhaps when some look at the size of the collage, representitive of the heartbreak a miscarriage causes, they might realize why this students art project is so offensive.

You want to demonstrate how acidic your tears are?

Art is art is art, if its pretty or makes no sense or beautiful or appaling, thats not for me to judge.

Yet for every one of those undisclosed number of embryos, its not art, its not a choice or something to dismiss or take an interest in. Its the end.

And that I dont agree with.

The sad part is that there would probably be more objections if she was using dead kittens and puppies.

One day, when this girl decides she wants to have a child... perhaps she has a man in her life and he wants to have a child... she may find that she cannot, and then she may find herself telling the love of her life about her little art project.  Sometimes karma is like that.

OK as long as we can cure Alzheimer’s with them though?

Maybe the Artist is asking a bigger question?

And if she can't have kids in the future then she can just adopt or not have any; big whoop.

There are enough unwanted kids looking to be adopt that can fill any void she may or may not have caused with the art project.

<rant>better FC?

I wasn't going to get involved in this because - well - I have said what I think on another similar thread, but I am soooooooooooooo incensed right now I did want to add this.

I have miscarried.  But I do not find this repugnant because it effects me because of my loss.  That isn't the reason I may find it disagreeable.  I do not want to be included in group hugs as if I have something in common with another person because I lost children, because I don't.

In my opinion, using miscarriage (and including me in that) as an excuse to be 'disturbed' is just as 'disturbing' as the act we are supposed to be 'disturbed' over.  This isn't about the loss of babies for crying out loud and I am appalled and find it invidious that it's even considered in the same breath.

Are you suggesting that people might consider a bigger picture FC?

Morals; another phantom concept.

What’s wrong with just being responsible for and toward yourself in light of others?

Hard to criticize one, when there are millions, doing things no less irresponsible.

She has the right to do as she pleases with her body.

However, it is not art. Her project should not be displayed, she should not receive any academic credit for it, and her advisor should be called to account for why this crap was allowed to proceed in the first place.

Well I don't know much about art but it seems to me she is provoking debate and is trying to make some point or other. Funny thing is she is trying to make a pro-life point with a pro choice act but annoying both sides equally most likely.

I don't know what point she is trying to make - which is kind of annoying really when the subject is so controversial - apart from sparking debate.  Maybe that is all she wants.
I find peoples reactions more interesting that the art itself mind. What she did is abortion.
Why people label it and compare it to miscarriage is beyond me.

EDIT: Nevermind, I see what you're saying.  You're right, it is an odd choice of word for what's clearly an abortion.

But speaking for myself, I'd be disturbed by the entire thing even if I had never lost my son.  My feelings of sadness, however, come straight from the use of "miscarriage" rather than abortion.  Even seeing that word still makes me cringe... it hasn't been long enough yet for me to get over it enough to remove that word's power over me.
