MollyTroubletail -> I had a lil nervous breakdown last Sunday. (4/23/2008 3:07:29 PM)

I called 9-1-1 and described how I was feeling. They took me to the psyche ward of the local hospital. The doctor said I was bipolar, but it wasn't true. I was just having a little trouble decompressing from years of bullying and abuse at my desk job, which I had just been let go from.

They gave me Seroquel, Lithium, and a shot of Clopixol. All these things gave me a terrible case of "I Can't Stand-Its". That's when no matter what you are doing, you can't tolerate it or tolerate yourself for that matter. I told them that I wasn't Bi-Polar, just a little odd and a little stressed out. They wouldn't believe me.

I called a friend and arranged for him to meet me in secret during one of my smoke breaks outside the unit. I don't smoke. We hightailed it out of there in a plume of tire-smoke!!! Then we went to my sister's house and had Passover with their family, which was nice since they weren't expecting us and didn't ask any questions. Then we went home and just partied till dawn, when the police suddenly showed up at the door looking for me. I got dressed and went without a fight. Straight back to the psyche unit and angry/puzzled/frazzled staff there.

Next morning I retained a Patients Advocate Office lawyer who apparently works for free. She forced the psychiatrist to release me that very day, and boy was he mad! His teeth were clenched and that little knot in his jaw was throbbing as he gritted.

Now I'm home, jobless (yay, they gave me 2 months severence!), and happy as can be. Unfortunately, the shot of Clopixol they gave me is slow-release with a half-life of 7 to 14 days. I still feel like shit with these Can't-Stand-Its!

There was absolutely no point to the above story. I just felt like telling y'all.

It seems like you had a lot of energy.  You should have come here and did my laundry.

A little nervous breakdown?
{{Hugs}}
lol, your story is a bit funny, you are a real firebrand.
You call 911, they take you and then you decide to leave and go to Passover dinner?
lol, thanks for the chuckles tonight.

I am glad you are feeling better, pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and
things are going to get better for you sweetheart.

Look, if a job is making you that depressed/sad/crazy? you are going to
be so much better off!!!

Keep us posted on how you are doing, and good luck!

For future notice...in the psych ward...you just have to write a 72 hour notice...saying you want to leave AMA...and they pretty much have to release you unless they get a court order to keep you. (which is pretty hard to do.)

I've nearly called 911 in the midst of a panic attack before. After reading this though I'm glad I didn't, cause all I was interested in was a safe place to break down, not getting pumped full of meds that make me irritable. I'm glad you're home!

pahunkboy -> RE: I had a lil nervous breakdown last Sunday. (4/24/2008 6:59:51 AM)

hmm.  if you have no insurance it happens less.    beware: ins cos say they will pay, then back out-= they figure they saved your life, so of course you will pay $.

may I suggest counselling?

BTW you have a right to refuse meds, treatment.

I have done escapes  - one when a dr was going to pump me with steroids for the 42nd time.  [i figured he was over-doing it]  he was mad as heck. sent me a cerified letter that i was not to return.

--oh-  there are crises centers 24 hours a day some with toll free numbers.  use that - instead of 911

mhawk -> RE: I had a lil nervous breakdown last Sunday. (4/24/2008 8:05:28 AM)

i think maybe a better bet would be to call a friend to sit and talk.

i've too made the mistake of allowing someone to taek me to an ER when i was having a really bad time.it was when i was first getting off of heavy drugs. and of course considering i was detoxing at the time, the psychs at the ER though i was insane when all i really needed was recoup time and some rest.but because it was at an ER they diecided it was in their best interests to put me on meds.  of course i walked out as soon as i could.
