Does anyone know how long ice can be applied to skin before damage occurs?

That can vary depending on the body part and person. For therapy reason Ice is applied over a towel for 20 minutes on and 20 off. With direct skin contact for what you are looking for, I would say no more than a coupleof minutes at a time, that should provide you with the effect you are looking for. For nipples and the penis I would say 30-45 seconds at a time.

That briefly? I was thinking more like 5 minutes on normal skin, 1 on erogenous zones...Of course, the ice will melt, too...

Although this link is for ice treatment of sports injuries, it does offer some time guidance limits (and most likely isn't referring to ice applied to genitals):  http://www.uihealthcare.com/topics/sportsmedicine/spor3341.html

Still, I would never simply depend upon time limits, but direct observation and response from your partner.

Plenty of pics on the internet to demonstrate what ice burns look like.

Of course I wouldn't just rely on time intervals...but I know we have to write for the people who really are clueless. *wry*
The five to ten minutes of ice massage is a good indicator, imo. *nodnod* Thanks!

Those times should be ok as long as you pay close attention to the persons skin. While ice will not cause frost bite that quicky, some people can get an injury that resembles a burn, not frostbite.

What kind of ice are we talking about here?

I'm assuming ice cubes. A single or just a few ice cubes out of the freezer will melt long before doing "damage" on normal skin.

If you're worried about sticky ice and the possibilites of peeling skin, get your ice from a bucket of water. I've never had any problems using Ice out of a bucket of Ice Cold Water.

Now put some ice in a pitcher of water, tie down a sub, and have some fun.

Oh, good point about the water! I'm actually thinking crushed ice. Probably would melt too fast to do damage in the quantities I'm thinking of using, actually...Thanks.

Yummie. A little CoolAid mix and you have yourself a Snow Cone Sub. Just be ready for things to get a little sticky. Besure that the sugars don't make it to a certain point on yourself. Otherwise, I think this is a nifty idea.

Ok, i don't know if this applies or not, but 1 minute for genitals? i have to disagree! When i delivered my first child ten years ago, she was born on a military base (the last of two born there, i might add) and when the nurses examined me after birth, i was seriously swollen. They asked if i wanted an ice pack, to which the word duh comes to mind. Anyway, i didn't know at the time what they were using, but the ice was there for quite a while. Of course, i was in the hospital and being checked regularly, but that's not the point. The point is, the nurses felt it was safe to place a condom filled with water and frozen for an ice pack. According to them, it was a "natural fit" and they allowed it to stay there for a while. Having no sense of time at that particular time, i don't know how long. But it was more than a few minutes, i can tell you that!
