Just a bit of information about antibiotics...

When you are prescribed an antibiotic either take the entire thing or don't pick up the prescription at all. You are supposed to take the entire amount for a reason.

While the antibiotics are working their magic, killing the bacteria that has made you ill the bacteria are trying to fight their way through the medication. And if you stop in the middle of it you allow the bacteria to change, becoming resistant to that form of antibiotic.

So when you pass it to the next poor sap they can't be treated with the same medication because they've got an evolved or mutated form of the bacteria.

This - as well as washing excessively and obsessively - has helped to contribute to the super bacteria that is resistant to most antibiotics.

Additional comment on antibiotics: they don't work for virii like the bird flu. Too many people grab onto some leftover antibiotic when they have the flu. Not only doesn't it help the infection but it can weaken the body by interfering with the beneficial bacterial we all carry around.

Bottom line: Listen to the doctor.

Oh, I agree with you, MD, about handwashing that is done with antibacterial soap. It does ramp up the evolutionary process. However, one of the best ways to avoid the spread of disease is washing one's hands often with a regular detergent or soap. That should be encouraged,
