Now, my cat would be a great submissive were he a human. He's attentive, stays out of the way for the most part and knows how to communicate his wants and needs (and sometimes tops from the bottom but in true Domme fashion I can just ignore it). Just for the record, none of this is sexual or s&m related (and I'm not looking to become more dominant myself), but I'm wondering if Dom/mes view their subs as I view my cat. I love him and take care of him because he is my responsibility, he in turn gives me companionship, obedience (most of the time) and quite literal praise. Is this a similar relationship a dominant person would have with their sub? I know people take literal pets in this lifestyle but I'm wondering on a more general basis.

Um.... No... My girls are more than just a companionship... I am a part of a Triad.  The Traid is our focus.  I have heard Merc make the comment in the past... and I very much agree with it.... "We serve the Relationship"  The relationship is our priority... it comes first.... I just happen to have the role of captain of the ship!

Excerpts from a Dog's Diary:

8:00 am - Dog food! My favorite thing!
9:30 am - A car ride! My favorite thing!
9:40 am - A walk in the park! My favorite thing!
10:30am - Got rubbed and petted! My favorite thing!
12:00pm - Lunch! My favorite thing!
1:00 pm - Played in the yard! My favorite thing!
3:00 pm - Wagged my tail! My favorite thing!
5:00 pm - Milk bones! My favorite thing!
7:00 pm - Got to play ball! My favorite thing!
8:00 pm - Wow! Watched TV with the people! My favorite thing!
11:00 pm - Sleeping on the bed! My favorite thing!

Excerpts from a Cat's Diary

Day 983 of my captivity. My captors continue to taunt me with
bizarre little dangling objects.

They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are
fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for
the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in
order to keep up my strength. The only thing that keeps me going is
my dream of escape.

In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet.

Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their
feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it
clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made
condescending comments about what a "good little hunter" I am.
Bastards!

There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was
placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event.
However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my
confinement was due to the power of "allergies." I must learn what this
means, and how to use it to my advantage.

Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my
tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try
this again tomorrow -- but at the top of the stairs.

I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and
snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released -
and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded. The
bird has got to be an informant. I observe him communicate with the guards
regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors have
arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe.
For now

My ex and I used the "my favorite thing!" from this with our joint-custody dog roughly nine million times. It never failed to amuse me, mainly because it's incredibly accurate, and it didn't fail this time, either.

A number of messages I've recieved on the other side from submissive men have been along the lines of "you'd be a great Domme" as well as "please consider dominating me". My reply to them has always been, "no thanks, the only living thing I feel comfortable being in charge of is my cat"

Now, my cat would be a great submissive were he a human. He's attentive, stays out of the way for the most part and knows how to communicate his wants and needs (and sometimes tops from the bottom but in true Domme fashion I can just ignore it). Is this a similar relationship a dominant person would have with their sub? I know people take literal pets in this lifestyle but I'm wondering on a more general basis.

I am honestly really curious about this, because it's the only experience I have with being in charge. I'm just trying to relate it to something I know. Also, it might be a good model for my relationship with my Alpha, as long as I don't start shredding the couch, right? thanks for any input.

Yes, actually you are almost like a pet...
Masters Pet...
but the main difference is...
That you can communicate with him...
An added extra pleasure...
Melt him with your words and he will dominate you really nice and
also want to cuddle you...

Lordandmaster -> RE: trying to understand the dominant mindset. (5/1/2008 8:37:56 PM)

I'd say it's a little different because a cat can't do much for you that you couldn't do for yourself.  It provides companionship and stress relief and maybe a little entertainment.  That's about it, no?  (Hard for me to say because I hate cats.  At least a dog is loyal and might even do something helpful in a crisis.)

But I wouldn't be interested in a sub who can't do more than relieve stress.  The more capable she is, the more interested I am.  I want to own a HUMAN BEING, not a pet.

Many Years ago this was Exactly my first Grasp of M/s D/s dynamics. the caregiver needs the pet just as much as the pet needs the caregiver. both are equally important both take care of each other only in different ways.

this served as my base understanding of D/s for awhile. it still has its truth. but from here on out it only gets more complicated.

Cheers

Relationships are only about what we enable in each other.

And that can be good, bad, indifferent-or a comination of all three.

I just pretend I'm chinese, and have em for lunch.

Man's best friend is also man's best meal. And I like the irony of beng the biter, rather than the bitee.
