I highly recommend VitaminWater they come in yummy Dragonfruit, rasberry apple ect. they come in names like defense, focus, energy ect. they are really good, plus they have vitamins in them like vitamin C ect. I wouldn't drink to many of them aday for they do have alot of calories. They are also great after grueling workout. They alos have somthing similar called Talking Rain Vitamin water without the calories at Costco like 24 of them in bulk for like $10.00. I drink tons of those. I don't drink soda that much bad for your skin plus the sucralose in diet sodas and the sugar in regular soda don't even get me started on that one[:'(].

i've been drinking one small glass per day. Master said he was proud of me, but thinks i should take it a little slower on weaning off the green stuff. This last week i've been dropping everything and spilling stuff. He called it "the shakes" and says it happens when your body has become dependent on something and then you deprive your body of that thing. Still no head aches though.[:)]

I am right there with you.. I drink way too much dr pepper and my Dominant is trying to encourage me to loose weight. And the Dr Peppers are really adding calories to my "diet" I dont need. I was averaging 6-8 cans of dr peppers a day easily. Now I am trying to break myself and drink cystal light/ water anything but dr pepper and soda.. I do get migraines bad and stress causes me to crave caffeine more. (I'm in college with two toddlers at home) so.. Its gonna be a hard road.. you just have to have motivation. Like someone said before you eventually loose the taste once you can break yourself off of it. The longest I have gone without soda was the three months I was in basic training.. maybe I just need a drill sgt yelling at me everytime I reach for a Dr Pepper lol

i would use caution with sports drinks such as Gatorade. They are meant as an electrolyte replacement and it does not sound as if you need that.

I was in the Air Force and we had soda, what service didn't allow you soda?  Ours was there in the mess hall anytime for the taking.

It'll kill your teeth, too, not just your kidneys!

I used to be in a simular boat when it came to soda's, i'd drink way to much of it and the sugar is bad for me due to a slow metabolism, so my husband took me off regular sodas and told me if i wanted a soda it had to be diet.  It took me a couple weeks to get used to the flavor but it was better then the headaches, and now i'm to the point where i can't drink regular sugary drinks...it tastes funny.

Get some lemons, oranges  or limes  ...cut  slices  to add to a pitcher of water ,   start adding sugar initially to your taste and gradually wean back to amount of sugar you add to the pitcher till you are drinking without, heck of a lot cheaper than buying prepackaged stuff, and will allow you to reduce your sugar intake..  the sugar replacements are not necessarily healthier for you

i have issue drinking anything that isnt REALLY cold.  i keep crystal light made (i'm the only one who drinks it) and there are several water bottles in the icebox at all times.

i keep the bottles if i buy one while i'm out, then refill them from the tap.  room temp water makes me feel sick to my stomach, but ice water is fine.

I was in the Army, it was in the mess hall but we were not allowed to touch it at all. There were machines in our barracks area but we could not use them either. We could not have candy or soda, no cake unless it was your birthday. We were only allowed a certain kind of cough drop to if we needed to take one.  In AIT we could have soda but they told us that we should be concious of what we ate and drank. As soon as they gave me permission to drink anything with caffeine I gunned for it. :) But bright side I have been 3 day soda free right now.. whoo hoo.. and no drill sgt in site

Ian's crazy about health and organic stuff. We buy organic root beer for christ's sake. Lol

As far as the sweet stuff goes try the flower tea from Star bucks. It's amazing and very sweet.

Organic juices tend to be sweet and are very healthy. Umm....Morning Blend juice is very yummy. Organic soda is good for you as well and sweet. So...yup....Kroger's has a decent selection of stuff. Not sure if you have Kroger's out in your neck of the woods, but, if not it's not too hard to find an organic food store.

There's also Propel water flavoring /bottled water.  I like the berry flavor :)

I used to drink literally nothing but Mt Dew. It was normal for me to go through a 12pk a day (or more).  I'm down to a ilttle over a litre a day now.  And I have started drinking more water.  Thus the Propel.

Dammmnnnn, GT! I LOVE those drinks ESPECIALLY the berry flavor!!

Fast Reply:

1. Mountain Dew has more caffeine in it than colas, including Pepsi itself.
2. Caffeine is a diuretic; that means it makes you pee more than usual. Which makes it a less-than-great choice for quenching THIRST...because your body wanted hydration.
3. Whatever you substitute for the caffeine, I recommend you try simply drinking a glass of water when you are thirsty...and then go ahead and have the caffeine if you want. But feed the thirst first. Give your body a chance.
4. In hot weather, especially in humid climates, your body can complain of thirst when you're practically sloshing. The best advice I ever got about Gatorade (normally yuck!) is that IF it tastes good to you, your body needs it. When it stops tasting good, quit drinking it. (That was after I helped a friend clean out her newly sold home for 15 hours one sweaty summer day. We got to the cupboard in the kitchen that had the Gatorade in it, and she 'splained that to me, while agreeing about the taste generally. She was right...I loved it...for about 9 ounces, and then back to ugh.)

As for the caffeine withdrawal, having watched my mother go through giving up coffee every Lent for a dozen years, I wish you luck. My caffeine is all fizzy, but I've had decent luck combining cutting back on quantity with getting myself a few cases of caffeine-free (sugared) Pepsi.

Other downsides to caffeine...it contributes to fibrous masses in the breasts that make breast cancer harder to diagnose, and similarly can contribute to the development of uterine fibroids. The younger you learn to manage caffeine addiction, the more choices you have throughout your life. Just so you KNOW what you're looking at.

At this point, I periodically eschew all caffeine for sometimes months at a time, and then I get stressed and fall off my wagon. But every break in the intake gives me that much better chance to dodge the 4-generation female cancer "bullet".

I have the same problem with the taste of plain water, but found that it tastes a lot better if i filter it first.

Otherwise, the lemon and lime peel idea is good, also experiment with ice cubes and different temperatures - it might sound funny, but i also found it easier to drink water from a plastic bottle rather than a glass - that changes the taste too.
